nost isn't going to determine the number of and what kind of servers to re-open based on a useless opinion poll where the main people voting aren't going to be indicative of the actual population that will be playing there.
Okay, first of all, we actually don't know what they're planning to do, but from a business standpoint (yes, I know nostalrius isn't a business) it makes sense for them to appeal to the widest possible playerbase, therefore, a fresh wipe.
see OSRS for an example; large demand for a return of original runescape, which came, then was slowly ruined over time due to shitty opinion polls where retail babies were allowed to vote for the inclusion of QoL carebear """"""improvements""""" which ruined OSRS yet again. it doesnt work
I mean, I kinda agree. the top 10% were getting things incredibly easily and the scrubs couldn't catch up, so they made certain content easier, and I agree, they did ruin some aspects of the game because of that, and I also hold that same opinion about WoW, over time the carebears needed stuff and WoW got worse and eventually the people who were good at the game stopped trying because carebears made up 99% of the playerbase.
everyone knows that majority of people would vote for a fresh server, because all the new players don't want to have to try to play catch up to people ahead of them, even though 99% of them won't get to 60 and if they do absolutely will not be in the top percentile of players leading content.
I mean, if you bring in a fresh batch of any new players into vanilla wow (which a relaunch will) and give them the opportunity to grind up to the top, some will, the majority won't. This was also true prior to the launch of nostalrius. (which I was there for, by the way) some made it, others gave up. but SOME made it, and that's the point, fresh blood.
you as well as all of these other players have had plenty of opportunities to start on fresh servers that were better scripted at launch than nost was at launch, yet decided not to. if nost reopens fresh and gets shut down in a year again, you bet your bottom dollar people will be crying for a fresh start even then.
They will. but this is a human thing. 90% of the people feel they can't catch up and demand a fresh start, whereas 10% of the playerbase defend the old database to the death. It's one of the reasons we're never getting WoW2.
the point is, nost isn't just going to throw away the time and progress (5400 years of cumulative play time across every account) of players who made the server as big as it was through word of mouth for the sake of some bottom of the barrel indecisive shitters who have had 3 or 4 different opportunities since shut down to reroll fresh
you can quote any statistic you like, and that figure is true and I know it is, but it doesn't change the fact new players do exist who weren't around for nost 1 that are around for nost 2 that will be well behind the competition, but maybe the second wave being bigger than those at the top is still an okay thing, since the majority of players will be scrubs.
with the additional attention all this shit has garnered, there will be the original database + 2 or 3 additional pvp/pve servers for sure. the ONLY possible way nost won't reopen the old database is if it is for some reason impossible to do so, even with the pre-announcement backups the devs have confirmed they have
I mean, personally dude, I did play on the old nost, I did get to 60 and the way I see it, it's either going to be a completely fresh start (which I don't mind personally, I liked the journey) or we get the old DB, and old players get their old chars and there's a huge influx of new players which are all brand new so nostalrius is even more-so filled with life as it was before.
Either way is good, and I don't care.
but personally, it is my honest and firm opinion that they'll go for the fresh start.
