This is a common myth about copyright law. Copyright does not lapse even if the owner does not prosecute those who violate it. And yes, Blizzard did shut us down.

Blizzard didn't shut you down, Nost shut itself down. CnD =/= shutdown.

I'm not sure if that is sarcasm or not. WoW in its current iteration isnt the same game that vanilla is/was. They are two completely different games that happen to share first name.

I have said it a thousand times before and I will say it again: Vanilla-WoW is ABANDON-WARE and thus fall under fair use.

Are we really going to start splitting hairs now? Your comment is a waste of space in this thread and it adds nothing to the discussion.

The mistake they made was Hosting it in France. The reason other server-admins can toss their CnD letters in the trash are because of Putin.

Pack up and move ? I get it, they wanted to persuade blizzard to host official servers. Pottu sticking too hard to the original plan...

If you are going to talk conspiracies, and even if it was true, I had a BLAST on Nostalrius and (if) it gets Blizzard to even consider official legacy-servers, I'd say it was a great success. If they do re-host in Russia under the protection of glorious and dear leader Putin, that would be sweet too.

This is far from splitting hairs. This isn't a minor detail. Blizzard DID NOT force a shutdown. Heck, Blizzard itself barely did anything. The host got a letter in the mail, as happens with nearly every private server in the scene.

Directly from the Staff's mouths came that they themselves decided to shut Nostalrius down. Now from what has been said over the past months, it was shut down to appeal to Blizzard for a meeting. This is perfectly fine. This was their decision, and I respect that; however, lying or mis-stating what happened isn't okay.

So if you call this "splitting hairs" I am grabbing a handful.
