Viper wrote:Dear Community,

Regarding the upcoming content, we have read all the comments from the 300 testers regarding Dire Maul North and the Player Test Realm has been updated accordingly. Players who have access to this realm can now test it and confirm that the fixes are done. As for DM East & West, work is still ongoing and should be completed for this friday :)

The development team has been working against a threat for some weeks now: gold/accounts/services sellers and bot users, all of which are forbidden in our server. Sadly, 5.000 accounts have already been banned on that topic since server opening. Please acknowledge the fact that there is no shortcut available on our server! Everyone has to level up the same way because this is what Vanilla is all about.

Now we have created the first ever bot detecting system. It detects any bot on the server thanks to an automatic, secure and exclusive algorithm never built before. The system has been recently improved to detect them even faster last week. We've also developed a similar system to deal with gold and account sellers.

As a result, 729 accounts were banned in less than 5 days. This is kind of "shadow work" because players actually do not see the amount of work needed.

Since this system now works as planned, we've started focusing on an automatic spam detection algorithm, based on the one we built for bot detection.

Regarding activity this weekend, Nostalrius is proud to announce a new worldwide record with more than 7.650 players online at the same time on a single Vanilla server (x3 the population of a Vanilla server on retail back then). As a comparison, it was ~6.400 two weeks ago, and ~6.530 last week, which means more than 1.100 new players have arrived on the server in the last few days, without any advertising from our side. It means that you, the community, spread the word all around and we have gotten more and more popular to a stage we could not have dreamed of when we started.

Thank you so much for your support!

Stay tuned for more information soon ;)

Best regards,
Nostalrius

Awesome to hear Dire Maul progressing that fast. The most important thing is script quality, there is no need to rush the release if it's gonna be buggued ;)

I HATE botters, cheaters, hackers, gold sellers, account sellers. It's because of HB and BOL that I had quit playing retail WoW and LoL >_>

You do have a big motivation compared to blizzard to kick cheaters' ass here, since they don't pay a sub and ruin everyone's gameplay. Kudos to you!

And yeah, the average joe doesn't realize the pita that is detecting bots (and banning them) especially if you did it manually by hand, reviewing report cases one by one...

If you can also take care of spammers, that would be perfect !

I can vouch for the 7.5k players record, it"s not that rare to attain 7K players in the evening too.

It's kinda hard to level when you are about 20 people at every quest waiting for a named mob target or some quest items to respawn, but the friendly community, grouping up and helping each other mentality makes up for it ^^

Better to have a lively world with players than be 30 random dudes leveling to max level and even at max level having not enough players to do stuff lol.

Keep it up! :P
This is a signature until I can bypass that damned 502 ERROR when I put an IMG tag in my sig and try to submit it.

Pernille wrote:I am a wholehearted supporter of banning botters, gold sellers etc., but please please acknowledge that any automatic system - and especially a newly built one - can pick up false positives and make sure to dedicate some resources to sorting out those cases. That being said, thank you for working hard to keep making Nostalrius better!

The system detects them, we confirm in person.

Hey Viper, do you have any word on BWL? I think a few weeks ago, you said there were some guilds chosen to test them out, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Great work on DM by the way!

I wonder if there is ground for a court case vs blizzard. The ground being that they did not do enough effort to detect and ban botters on retail making the game they sell to players not as advertized because instead of playing pvp against thousands of players you play against bots.
