The whole team is glad to share with you the Post Mortem of Nostalrius. This document covers all the aspects of the project, the challenges faced and the best practices we found. Even though Nostalrius was a WoW server this feedback can be useful to anyone willing to create a worldwide volunteer based activity.
The Post Mortem released today was given to Blizzard Entertainment includes the following parts:
- Context of the Project, how private servers were created, market analysis done by the team and how we succeed to create a complete virtual worldwide "company" of around 40 volunteers.
- Organization of the project including team missions & humans resources.
- Market strategies & communication management.
- Quality analysis for development, customer services i.e. GM, and IsVV i.e. testers.
- Product analysis including emulator, hardware hosting, code statistics and configuration management.
- Conclusion including Nostalrius internal strategic plans & direction for the future.
- An appendix section covering cost analysis, performance improvement, data recovery, community analysis, technologies for video making and SWOT.
Following modification has been applied from the former document given to Blizzard Entertainment:
- Anti-cheat, anti-bot, security, etc. systems description and results were removed for security purpose (remain Blizzard restricted as it may impact retail game).
- Additional information regarding how data are gathered from the original game based on the discussion we had with World of Warcraft team during the meeting.

An update regarding the current situation.
We tried to keep the contact with Blizzard internals. We sent them elements & propositions after the meeting still on a voluntary basis and were willing to continue the discussion as they invited us to do so. We however did not receive answers or any communication since June, 13th 2016. You will be informed as soon as we have new elements available.
The next Blizzcon is in 4 months now. Before this we all need to continue showing our support and motivation regarding this dream, we have been waiting for so many years now. We have to keep a positive attitude and a cool head att all time but we also have to make our voices heard.
A t-shirt campaign is under preparation for all the players around the world who care about Legacy in general and in World of Warcraft more particulary. These T-Shirts will be available before the Blizzcon. As always we won't receive any financial gain from this campaign and might even inject some of our own money again because *we care* about Legacy and about this community.
More news in the following weeks.
Best regards,
Nostalrius.
