Class/Race combo importance.

Is it a BIG problem if, for instance I chose to be an undead lock instead of an orc lock? (Not sure if it's the case but let's imagen orc is the best race for warlock) How much will a bad race/class combo hold me back? And more importanly how much respect will I loose in the community?

The only class/race combo you need to worry about is Priest.
As some priest abilities are locked behind the race you are, such as only Dwarves can cast Fear Ward and only Undead can cast Devouring Plague.

From what I understand, priest is the only majorly varying class/race combo, since different priest races get some different spells. Fear ward for dwarves being arguably the most important.

Besides that, the other racials seem to have more effect in pvp than pve, namely ones like the undead's will of the forsaken, orc's hardiness, gnome's escape artist, dwarf's stoneskin etc. They each can be really good in the right situation, or irrelevant in others.

The other PVE racials only have a small effect in raids. Like, a percent or two of an effect (in your own performance, which is then spread out across 20 or 40 people). If you want to min-max then they're worth considering, but the chances of a few percent more damage changing the whole fight are pretty low. The chances of a racial consistently being the defining factor in a raid is close to nil.

It depends on the class.

- Priest for instance, they get racial spells which causes the Dwarf Priest to reign supreme because of Fear Ward.
- With Rogues your race would actually determine what spec you may play as.
- Gnome are the best Mages and Warlocks because of their intelligence boost.
- Forsaken have an overpowered racial ability for PvP.
- Because of their health boost, Taurens make the best tanks.

Seriously, nobody mentioned weapon skill racials??

For DPS warrior or rogue racial weapon skill is HUGE. Humans get +5 sword and mace skill so for PvE, every alliance rogue and DPS warrior should be human, otherwise you are gimping yourself.

For horde, DPS warrior better be orc for that Axe skill.

If you are only planning to PvP the weapon skill doesn't matter.

+1

Weapon Skill Racials are probably the most important PvE racials outside of Fear Ward
