God Tier pvp classes.

only bad thing is that guilds only bring 1 shadow priest to raids. some guilds dont even bring any.

Kinda depends on what you intend to do.
For pvp
-Spriest is very good
-UD Spriest is pretty much the best 1v1 in the game
-Ally Locks have a rough time in PvP due to the large amount of UD players
-A geared Lock can wreak havoc on a battlefield.
For pve
-Locks are always in demand
-As Noxx said guilds only bring 1 Spriest to raids to buff locks(though most successful guilds will use a Spriest) so if you can gear yourself, mostly through pvp, you should be able to find a guild, but its obviously harder than finding one as a lock.
-As Spriests are basically a support class, moreso than a straight dpser.

If you're unsure about which one to pick, then you're probably better off as a warlock.

Play whichever class is most appealing to you. If you take other peoples advice on what you should play and why, chances are you will get bored or wish you picked a different class.

Plus side to playing a shadow priest, you can switch to a healing spec if you get bored or want to try something new.

The above comments are good info but people tend to forgot that priests even if shadow specced can heal and dispel their teammates which is invaluable and is something a lock cannot do.

Also mind control is a beautiful thing.

Shadow priest is probably the strongest pvp build. I think that at a high level of skill, is hard to find something that counters them. Hunters maybe, not sure.

They do pretty bad in most dungeons I've had one. Makes sense though, their combination of SW:P, Mind Blast and Mind Flay has complications for mobs. Mind Blast has a really high threat modifier so they can't use it very early or the mob might pull towards them. Mind Flay is very useful in pvp to slow and maybe proc blackout, but it has pretty bad dps comparatively speaking. Silence is a non-factor for boss fights and only helps vs caster trash packs.
In other words, shadow priests lack any fast cast/high dmg move like a mage does with frostbolt/fireball, like a warlock does with shadow bolt, or even like a smiter holy/disc priest would do with smite. They also have really serious mana issues.

Warlocks should be Horde to avoid going up against WotF and Tremor Totems (this goes for priests too) and Shadow Priests should be Undead for Devouring Plague and Touch of Weakness. Some Shadow Priests go Troll for the Shadowguard spell and Berserking though (and occasionally the regen, but really 10% life regen is unnoticeable even for priests).

On the Alliance side Night Elfs have a slight perk in PvP as Shadow Priests through their +11% dodge chance, shadowmeld (great for cliff MCs), and ability to use Starshards to deal with school locks (lock 'em out of arcane; they really won't care), but Dwarf Priests rule PvE thanks to Fear Ward and have Desperate Prayer and Stoneform (breaks Rogue blind) for PvP.
