But why? Melee weapons were just stat sticks 99% of the time.

You can shoot while running and have no minimum range for shooting. Can't even equip melee weapons anymore because there is no ranged slot... You shot from melee range while running, so it would be even more sad than leveling a priest with shadow word: pain only.

the fun in hunter class died when they replaced mana with focus.. i believe that's one xpac before removing melee weapons, but yeah, gg for destroying such an insanely fun class to play during wotlk.

Maybe in raiding. But in PvP many times you'll need all your abilities, melee included for a Hunter. Plus it provides some flavor and personality. Hunter's in retail now feel like a caster that uses bow animations. Zzz.

I heard too many egos were crushed by dying to hunter melee that Bliz removed it to prevent more rage quits. Basically a financial decision.

And the only melee ability worth using is Wing Clip.

Ehhh, I'd think it just created tension between hunters and melee dps. And the whole "lol hunter weapon" meme.

They've kinda...always been that? Instead of shooting frost or shadowbolts, they're shooting...bolts.

Though for Legion, blizz said that they're going to be diversifying the hunter specs to make them feel different from each other, what with BM being "hunter+pet", MM being "solo hunter", and most interesting, Surv being a melee spec.

The whole system of focus regen was the problem. I don't remember much about Hunter PvE during Cata because it wasn't my main for raiding that XPac. For PvP Hunters were terribly gimped and only a few savants at the class (Tosan, Jungyup, maybe a couple others) could make it work above 2.2k. The whole system of Steady Shot & Aspect of the Fox really made life very difficult in arenas, and Hunters were simply not viable over 2k-2.2k in RBG unless they were being carried.
I was involved in Mop Beta & we managed to convince the devs to remove Aspect of the Fox. Mop was better for Hunter quality of life but by then Hunters had morphed into something different from what they were pre-Cata.
I used to feel more attached to my Hunter & took pride in knowing how to play it well in BC/Wrath. By the time I quit retail in MoP, it really wasn't the same. Maybe I just played it so much that it stopped being fun - but I also believe Blizzard made too many changes that made it un-fun at times & ultimately, uninteresting.

I still miss my Wing Clip+Mongoose Bite macro!
I had a Dwarf Hunter so I liked to use guns, and it was sad that a couple abilities such as Volley had a bow+arrow animation even if you had a gun equipped.

I play retail (and might probably will play PVE here) but there's more redeeming factors concerning retail than people give it credit for. Biggest thing for me is time. Logging in and being able to accomplish something in 30 min - a hour is beneficial to my life and I still get to experience the "core" WOW game.

After I graduate Vanilla WOW would be way more awesome than it is now.

I only play in short spurts too, longer on the weekends but you can absolutely do that here too. It will take you months to level, but so what? I'm here for the world, not to click garrison menus or play with shityard and call it an accomplishment.

Sorry, it is nothing personal. I just really can't stand what retail has become.
