I started playing in phase 3 of beta and quit after my guild downed C'thun but before Naxx 40 was released.

Mostly because of burn out. I was one of those 16 year olds who spent 60 hours a week in WoW during that time. I got a job in a local coffee shop and started discovering the joys of girls, drugs and booze. Needless to say, WoW stopped being a priority.

I quit during the start of Cataclysm, however did briefly come back using one of those resurrection scrolls in Mists of Pandaria.

Wrath of the Lich King was the peak of the mountain and what I saw after it I just did not like.

My story ..... As a kid i was really sick so i turn into a gamer. I become quite addicted to RPG like Dragon Warrior on my old NES. After fighting an addiction i was able to stop playing game and start travelling the world instead. When i come back from my vacation a friend of mine invited me to spend a week to his place. He told me to try WoW a new game that got release 2-3 weeks ago. I told him i wasn t into gaming anymore .... He still told me to give a try ....

Well sitting on his leather coach on a 52 inch plasma I started my first character , a tauren warrior. He left me to go to work and i spend the whole 8 hour playing (dying a lot too) , I only clear the first zone by the time he come back and he taught me the use of "M". I was amazed to see i spent the whole day playing and i just saw such a small part of the map. For me that world was huge .... that was actually a World. I move with him and my childhood friend and the 3 of us start to play together. A troll Shaman , A troll rogue and my Orc warlock (the Tauren was on his account)

We played for a good 2-3 month learning the rope but i quit to travel again. I might have take a 2-3 month break and moved far away in the country , about 4000 Km away with some other friend. We all restarted playing wow together.

Vanila wow was my best experience of an MMO , we were 8 childhood friend all scatter over the country (canada is huge) playing wow together. Wow was our way to keep in touch with each other. So many good memory i have , like i said Vanila was actually a World. Everyone you saw in BG were actually part of the world. If you were a dick then you will never find a group to raid with. Everybody was helpful.

With Bc release i got a little bit bitter. I spend close to 250 days of playing time on my only character. Mostly all epic , and i never been in a raiding guild. I get my epic from being exalted with the 3 bg , some crafting , darkmoon fair , timbermaw , a little bit of MC and some AQ20-40. As soon as BC start all those years of gearing were obsolete .... everything got replace by blue , the cross server were already ther e, so people in BG were pug , people you cannot be really become friend with because often they were not from our server. Flying kinda destroy world pvp , resilience was garbage , my reason to do raiding was to get gear to go in BG that it .... but even with all those flaw The talent tree was way better , more option. And karazan was one of the best instance.

Wotlk , i m still here , but i dont have only 1 character like in vanila wow , i understood its better to have many all low level epic character that only 1 really high. I met my wife 2 month before the release and she started to play with me. Wotlk was really casual compare to the 2 other. Everything was easier and the class balance were great... but the world become smaller and smaller. They release new zone and make everything else obsolete. for me that was the start of the downfall.

Cata got release.... got i hated that new talent tree system. Less place for customization , Everything become less and less interesting. My biggest fun during that expension was to make twink lv 77-79 with cata gear ..... i was leveling them in BG but my god that was fun. A druid with lacerate that 3 shot everything in front of him , i could take 6-7 player at the same time during isle of conquest .... prot paly that was killing everything or a frost mage that was killing everything within 4-5 icelance.

I quit at the end of Cata when the talent tree got completely remove.... I tried to come back during MOP but no ..... i hate what they did. Didnt even bother with WoD

Here my opinion about WoW downfall.

Always making the past instance obsolete is stupid .... you have a huge world and they keep releasing stuff over and over making everything u do obsolete .... that dumb. A new expension should have been a new continent with zone lv 1-60.

Raising the level bar is also stupid. People take about a week to destroy the new content. If the 2 new continent were lv 60 , that mean at lv 60 you can go in silithus , in the portal or in northrend. Not just 1 place to go .....

Tier should be tier. All tier should have been EQUAL. Just give bonus for set , so people have choice to make their own set , maybe someone would have love to get 1 bonus from T3 and 2 piece of T5 and the 2 other from T8 .... That would have give customization. Wow its always about having the SET of the patch and that it. There was no place for customization with gear. Instead of putting glyph , they should have put the bonus of the glyph directly on set bonus.

If all the raid were giving equal item lv epic , people would have choice of maybe 15 raid a week ....

Blizzard screw up , they don t understand what they did wrong.

-People wanted a virtual Social World , not an Random dungeon finder game with pug
-People wanted customization of their character, talent tree , gear , etc .....

Anyway i m done with my venting :P I quit before MOP :)

Quit before BC so I've only played vanilla.

Started at release and got 2 toons to 60 (EU-Ravencrest), raided some MC & Ony and world bosses, then quit somewhere around when BWL came.

Six months after that, me and some mates started a guild and managed to get over 30 ppl from our town to start new toons on a fresh server (EU-Veknilash), did some MC, ZG and maybe some AQ. Played for a few months before I quit for good.

This whole period feels like a big blur to me and I really mix up what I did with which toons. Looking at the patch timeline makes me even more confused cause I remember stuff like the AQ war effort as being before ZG, and I don't recall anything about the dragons of nightmare (or do I? hmm). Recall doing azuregos, kazzak and the thunderfury dude though...

Anyways... One day while browsing around on Twitch (only played HS at the time) I saw some streams with "vanilla wow" and yeah well the rest can be read in my sig. I got hooked again to say the least! :D

I quit just a day after I hit 85, shortly after the cata release. I didn't like what was happeningto the game during the end of wotlk, and cata continued on that route so

I played from Vanilla (june 2005, right before BWL) to the end of WotLK. I too, did not like the way cross realm PUGs were affecting things...no talking, no socializing, no community. I also didn't care for TOC and the other 5 mans that came out (Forge of Souls) and when I heard about the changes they were making for Cata, I dropped. (that was around fall of 2010)

I started playing again about 2 months ago for WoD. It took me 1 week to level to 100. Sigh. It took me about 3 more days to get item level high enough to do LFR, and then another week or 2 to get geared enough to start doing regular runs of HM and BRF. I don't really even know why I'm playing it at this point. I hate the talent system, the Garrison is farmville. I only log on to farm my garrison and raid on raid nights.

I stopped playing at the release of cata. Then came back at the end of MoP but it didn't feel the same anymore.
