From Blizzcon 2015 Q/A panel:

Q: Any plans for classic realms?
A: No. Lots of complexities involved, and the emotional resonance doesn’t always hold up.

Not gonna happen, boys.

Well, that can't really come out and say "We rightly fear that a classic/vanilla/TBC server will prove to be more popular than retail servers", now can they?

who cares it would cost monthly and most likely just release the server at the final state of the patch like naxx already out for vanilla or icc already out for woltk. they probably wouldnt put any effort into it

private server>some shitty blizzard crap time to move on from hoping for blizzard because private servers are alerady better

Unless you can somehow post this several years ago; it's not news. It's been a commonly known fact for a LONG time that Blizzard has no interest in making legacy servers. And they can shove it at this point. We have our server here. I should mention that Blizzard doesn't even care about their franchises anymore. Once SC 3/3 is done, it's going to be nothing but F2PMOBACASHSHOPWTSCRAP from now on. The only reason WoW is even still running is because it still has enough subs to justify the trouble. Blizzard has ran off or ignored anyone that understood MMOs or cared about the game a long time ago. Now it's just a relic from a previous generation being sucked on by money grubbing leeches before its rotting corpse finally dries up for good. The people that own it now(ACTIVISION) couldn't care less about it, and anyone that did left it years ago.

The reality is that MMOs as a whole are just done. The industry, including Blizzard, has moved on. It was a popular fad for a while, and now that time has passed. The market is now in F2PMOBAs, not big budget titles or MMOs, making Blizzard smart for investing in this change. You're not going to see another good MMO for a very long time. They are all just 3D arcades/social networks/cash shops now, made to appeal to the laziest skilless most impatient players, which doesn't make for a good game with any kind of longevity.

This is predicable isn't it? From what I've heard/read them say it seems they are quite dumb and honestly believe the changes they made to WoW aren't catering to different, wider interests but represent some sort of progress or "the FuTuRe".

QFT although I think some potentially good MMOs might come from crowdfunding, thinking about Star Citizen as a flag product. As for corporate agenda... you're right... mmo's as a prime gaming, streaming, e-sporting platform are gone for time being.

Great post by Drain!
It's really sad but true :(
I have been a Blizzard fan for many years. I played WC1-3, SC, D2 etc.
Nowadays they're going (or already are) in a direction where I won't follow. Tried Heroes out but that's just a joke compared to DOTA2. Hearthstone is a fun game though, but with that pay2win attitude it's not my type of game.
Gonna buy Legacy of the Void but after that, I doubt I'll buy another blizz game.

It's not a subject of won't, it's a subject of can't. Blizzard can barely get content out for WoW in the first place and now they've got another half a year of no content, because they have no forward planning/are retards.

I disagree with everything you say. Even with WoD being the worst expansion, it was still better then most other MMO expansions. Pandaria was bloody amazing and Legion looks great too with tons of new features and good changes. With movie and expansion coming out next summer I can see huge influx of players in WoW in 2016.

As for MMOs as a whole "done", I think they hardly even started. We are seeing just a dawn of it and with VR revolution on the horizon MMOs will evolve into virtual worlds from theme parks they are today. Also there are plenty good MMOs coming soon: Lost Ark, Lineage Eternal, Star Citizen, TC Division, Tree of Savior, Dragon Dogma Online.
