[REQ] Leveling advice

by Snoozee » Fri Mar 20, 2015 3:55 pm

So I've been playing on this server for about 7 days now. I am currently level 34 on my human warlock, up to level 30 was a nice journey, managed to do 1-1.5 hours per level although it being a bit busy. Now after I hit 30 and had to go to "contested" zones to level up I haven't been able to do a level in less than 5 hours. I am seriously getting frustrated about my progress and really need some advice. I have tried questing in STV, Arathi and Hillsbrad as well as running SM, it took me roughly 23 hours to get from 30 to 34, this is ridiculous. I am close to giving up but I still want to continue. I am heading to Desolace right now though I doubt it being any different there. Does anyone have any advice on how to make the leveling process here less painful?

Don't focus on hitting 60, enjoy the slower levelling. Do some PvP in the mean time. Engage in community ran events. STV is full of PvP which can be fun to take your mind off of the grind.

Leel 60 is still low populated in comparison to the levelling zerg, you'll be more bored at 60 than you will levelling unless you're in a solid raiding guild I can almost guarantee.
I dare you to try and bubble hearth...

Untrue, you want to hit 60 as soon as possible simply because the game is fun at 60 and no other level.

I don't agree with Malbio, but I agree with Kaelang.
I think that everyone can enjoy leveling, when you do it slowly, just like a role playing game. You can cook, help people, do fishing, do other professions, speak with other people at Orgrimmar or Ironforge, go to Elwynn Forest or Durotar and see some low level players of the other faction, explore anything in the zones (the 1-60 zones are really interesting ; I always discover some new things !), ... ; and when you want, you can do quests, or kill whatever mob you want, to levelup.
Even if on Nostalrius I did a speedrun to 60, normally I take my time to level, and I really enjoy it. I know that some people want to reach 60 as fast as possible just to do some "stay 30 min at Orgrimmar to catch up 4 other people to do a dungeon, to kill other mobs (just like in leveling) and to have a loot every 2 hours" or some "go kill players of the other faction" (which is what you're doing Snooze isn't it ? :p), but I think that if these people think they don't like leveling, they can really enjoy it by levelling slowly, and just by having fun.

Snooze is saying that players of the other faction are a pain while leveling. But, there are so many players at 60 who always want to PvP. So you can just enjoy PvP while leveling ! It can be annoying sometimes when 3 people are killing you for the 3rd time ; but if it's the case you can call friends to kill them all !

So if you want to have fun leveling on Nostalrius : you can just change your objectives (don't want to reach 60 as soon as possible, but enjoy PvP and PvE at low level, it's as good at high level). You can also wait some months to have less people in the zones (but it's too long for some :p)

I've always leveled like this.

Get all quests.

Kill everything you see while completing the quests, turning them, etc. If it can be killed kill it.

Repeat.

Coffee helps. Other than that there's no secret fix. You can track your XP per hour with a few addons, if that helps.

What this guy said. I just kill everything on my way from one quest to the other.

It can really help your professions especially if they are skinnable or drop greens u can sell on the AH/disenchant or for cloth for tailoring/first aid. I just recommend investing money in large bags, like 12-14+ size and killing just everything in sight.

I've done enough leveling in retail vanilla back in the days and that was enjoyable yes, took me 8. months to get my first 60. Now I am just interested in the end game content. I know how to level up quickly, its just impossible here. What I'm looking for is some advice on which zones are less busy (mainly concerning horde here) and what are the hours that the least amount of players play.

Sure I could have a ton of fun pvping with a hunter or rogue at a lower level but as an alliance warlock it is not very fun so far.

I'm sure you've already mastered aggro lines. I only kill what I have to. Professions like Herbalism + Alchemy are good for leveling as potions are just sooo helpful in a variety of situations. Especially as a warlock. Definitely don't go to STV. That is seriously the HELL of Vanilla haha.

The reason you might find most advice for this to be less than helpful is because with vanilla leveling there really is no magic button or "fix" to it. You just have to suck it up and push through it. It's challenging for sure, especially for those of us who have families, full-time jobs, and what not, but that's just how vanilla was. Unforgiving in its requirements for glory, but that made the achievements all the sweeter to obtain. That's why we're all here, to be able to feel that again.

Best advice I can offer is go for yellow quests like you mean it, if you're getting ganked a lot, either wait it out or go to an alternate zone, there's bound to be quests available.

Maybe in real retail it was possible to ignore STV, danger was not as high on an aged server where everyone is 60 so farming contested zones in Kalimdor was easier, but right now EVERY zone is populated. You really have to take advantage of STV, because it is a questing hot-bed.
