A week ago I dinged 60 on my UD warrior. I started reading the guides as how to spec him best for PvE and I noticed that Orc +5 axe skill is hailed as best racial for PvE fury warrior.

Immediately a question arose, does the orc Axe specialisation give him an e significant DPS increase as compared to mine considering everything else to be the same? Is the different really that noticeable in raids?

For example, I recently got the Axe Of Deep Woods and Flurry Axe for cheap and now I stand before a choice, do I use them as starting weapons, ore are they useless for me s a non-orc warrior?

I looked at the spreadsheet but I still have trouble understanding it, so I decided to ask for help. And also, Edgemasters Gloves are too out of reach for me.

I guess you can summarise my question to the basic, Did I dun goofed?

From a pure min/max perspective, yes, you dun goofed. BUT, undead have a very good racial so you aren't totally useless.

Anyway, on the topic of weapon skill, when you are fighting a mob level 61+ you have a chance to land a 'glancing blow' for 30% less damage than a normal hit. The glancing blow chance also takes precedence over your hit/crit chance so if you had something rediculous like 50% hit from gear and 100% crit (in theory, every auto attack should be a crit) you will still only crit 60% of the time, the other 40% will be a glancing blow for 30% less damage than a normal hit. This only applies to your auto attacks (white attacks).

As a fury warrior around 50% of your damage is from white attacks so having 40% of those attacks reduced by 30% is significant.

Now, weapon skill does a couple things. It increases your chance to hit/crit by a small amount, reduces the enemies chance to dodge/parry/block your attacks by a small amount AND it increases the damage of your glancing blows. The hit/crit/dodge/parry/block stuff is very minimal but at 310 weapon skill your glancing blows will land for 100% damage instead of 70% so getting 310 weapon skill is a big deal. Especially with a fury warrior where more white damage = more rage generation.

Are you going to be useless because you went undead? No.
Can you still top damage meters? Not in a super hardcore-max-tryhard guild but in a lot of other guilds, Yes.
Can you still be in the top 10 damage in a super hardcore-max-tryhard guild? Yes.

Keep in mind that when fighting mobs that are level 61 or less, weapon skill has almost no impact. So it really depends on what you are doing. If your goal is to do 40 man raids then undead is not ideal for sure but if you are just doing 5/20 mans, it's not that big of a deal.

Use edgemaster gloves when you raid, problem solved.

Thanks for the answer! You used the value of 310 here, meaning that 310 is the skill cap? So how much would an orc deal damage here with 305 skill, 85%? Or dies it scale non linear?

Would I do more damage than on orc without Edgemasters, but in regular gloves (dues to 2% diff)?

Being BiS för any race, Edgemasters should be mandatory for all warriors really.

Yea, it's not like orcs and humans have 310 weapon skill and you have 300. On alliance humans can get maladath in BWL which gives them 309 skill so edgemasters aren't worth it anymore but even orcs need edgemasters, they just have 312 weapon skill where as undead have 307.

The orc racial isn't terribly relevent, it's a 2-3% dps difference. Due to the lack of good axes in AQ and beyond that gap will only get smaller. Currently edgemaster's are on par or edge out against flameguard/devilsaur set for Orcs, that's basically 2 wasted weapon skill. If you're making use of these gloves you'll hardly be behind on dps (1-2% diff).

all races are viable. There is nothing gamebreaking in choose for example trolll instead of tauren. Ofc you say tauren got 5% healt boost and aoe stun, but is nothing that will save you from raid boss if u must wipe.
Personally i rolled orc for pure lore reason.
If you wannabe a OMGIMUSTSUPERTANKZCUZIMMAPROXD!!!oneoneone!!111 then go tauren tank and orc for dps.

otherwise enjoy the game and choose whichever you like.

Dont forget the 2min racial from ORCS.

And about edgemasters.

These cost about 900g at AH. So forget it. At least for me ^^
