Heya. Read a old forum post on feenix today. They discussed troll hunter hit ratings. What was said was that a troll with a bow (305 skill) only needed 6% hit and the bow specialization will do the rest to be hit capped.
Tests claimed that this is true, at least on that server. Anyone here that can confirm this is legit?

If this is true that means that as a troll hunter you could skip ALOT of hit rating gear and go for more raw dps items. Cheers :)

yup, unfortunately BiS pieces are X-bows, so a little cold shoulder there,
Anyways you thinking about skipping lot of hitgear is very nice, unfortunately there are some pieces that give so much power and Hit you would not want to skip, but yeah, you got some more freedom in early raiding with picking up stuff.

Didn't some EJ thread say 5 skill is more like 1% hit?

There is a formula for melee hit that causes the first five point of +Weapon Skill to be worth +2% Hit versus a level 63 target. No idea if this was the exact formula on retail, nor if it is the one used here, but that might answer your question.

Actually works as the difference between target defense and attackers skills is greater then 10, you get 0.6 hit rating per 1 skillpoint until the difference is 10 or less, then it gets normal treatment of 0.04 hit, crit,(Expertise=dodge removal)
thus it only works as you expect against bosses and lvl 63 elites.

If skill difference > 10 hit chance is
93 - (skillDifference - 10) * 0.4

If skill difference <= 10
95 - skillDifference * 0.1

Not quite. The first 4 skill points give 0.4% each, the 5th gives 1.4%.
Past 305 every additional skill point gives 0.1% hit. The 0.04% value is versus players only.

True Gazpy! Currently using Rhok so thats why i asked =)=) But yeah, most pre-raid bis is actually x-bows...

Thank you Guybrush! Hopefully this is accurate :P Sitting on 12% hit atm (LOL) if this is true... :D

Anyway, im going to test this out as much as i can, hopefully someone else is willing to aswell ;)

can you post me where you got that the last point is giving 3 times more than the predecesors, last time I checked the math every skill point until the sweetspot gave the same value.
