Nostalrius Begins - Quality wow vanilla realm (1.12)

Been doing some pvp and am wondering how i can deal best with mages? i have been fighting some 60 mages at 58 not expecting to win with my gear aswell but just for fun and trying out some engineering stuff also. I have noticed undead mages especially can get out of anything i throw at them and im dead after like 2 shots. if i silence they just ice block out of it. Fear= wotf. if i use the engineering rocket helm they can just ice block also. they will have a trinket also. if i don't do anything and try to kill them i can be just chain polymorphed

since i have no way of controlling them what can i do? if i simply fight i would be dead in seconds (same if i was 60 im sure)

I just dispell their ice barrier, mana burn them and try to outheal them until they are oom, maybe throw a shadow word pain for that extra damage and to make them iceblock on your conditions.Fear while they are casting something (they will use will of the forsaken first then trinket if you are alliance since 95% of horde mages are undead).

They will run out of mana way before you and will sheep you and start to evocate, this will bring you back to full health and probably a good chunk of mana too because of your mana regen.

Repeat the first step and they should be oom (which at this point means dead) while they have blown some cooldowns and you none.

An OOM mage with no buffs is not a threat.
I try not to straight up DPS-race a mage. Go for the long fight, you will most likely out-last them.

As a PvP Mage on live, I would advise you to take GREAT care when healing yourself against a Mage. If the Mage is competent, he will save his CS for when you heal yourself, and now you're locked out of Holy for 10sec. If he's rocking a 17/34 spec, no shadow spells or bubbles for 4sec, either. Try juking his CS with a nice long heal, and if he falls for it, you're golden.

An OOM Mage is a Dead Mage, but don't fall into the trap of thinking Mana burn will carry you to victory. If you try to Mana Burn a skilled Mage, he will spam Arc Missiles on you until you stop. If you know his Ice Block and Cold Snap are both on CD, it may be worth it to Silence him first. If he CS's your Mana Burn, spam heals and laugh in his face.

I imagine res knows more about Priests than me, but I do know that you can't win a simple slugfest with a Mage, as he can burst much harder than you. He can outburst you, but you can outlast him.
