Nostalrius Begins - Quality wow vanilla realm (1.12)

I've never leveled on a fresh server before and have been debating if it would be worth it to attempt to aoe level. My main concern is the amount of competition from people questing in the zone and other mages trying to aoe themselves. Just wanted to hear what other mages were thinking on questing vs attempting to aoe grind.

I don't think AoE grinding is that effective till Tanaris (when you have your mount + ice barrier).

It will likely be very hard to AoE in the tanaris pirate area due to other players and mages, so I would only try to aoe grind if I were out of quests and had rested exp.

Fastest way to level will be grinding some irrelevant non-quest mobs in some obscure corner of the zone.
Quest mobs and all the popular AoE grind locations will be full of people.

I saw a video of 2 frost mages leveling solely by AoE in Retail, well they gained alot more XP and items then I would get doing quests, so yes it is viable id say. But ofc they were with 2 so alot more frost novas etc

I remember leveling 52-60 back on live in the WPL camps because of the lack of quests ... Wasn't to smart back then either.

Not really sure how viable it will be here because it requires continually creating a new instance, but on live you were able to farm the entrance of DM East at 54+ (52+ really but it was much harder) for insane xp and items. I did 53-60 there and got a glowing brightwood staff (~1000 gold), some epic dagger, 15 or so blues, probably 100 living essences (10-15 gold per), and probably 600 gold in pure cash + all the junk that drops and you can sell.

So yeah, it'll be a good spot when DM comes out.

Except you'll only be able to reset an instance 5 times/hour. Might still be decent experience but you'll have crazy downtime between every "block" of resets.
