Incredibly high latency in wow only

by svenEsven » Tue May 12, 2015 8:26 pm

I've been having the same problem since the day after i installed, I ping anywhere from 5-15k... I realize this could be something on my end but no other programs i am running come in the same ballpark as that, right now i have 13k ping in wow, 35 ping in mumble, and 54 ping in Dota2 US east server. I would say its my location but i have 5 other friends within an 80 mile radius of me who play fine, one of which uses the exact internet package i am using. i have opened ports, installed a latency fix mod, uninstall/reinstalled drivers, changed dns to google's open dns, and every other thing i could find to try and improve my connection to no avail. If i exit the game and log back in the connection is solid for about 5-30 minutes and it returns to an unplayable connection. I tried shifting into bear form about a minute before posting this and it still hasnt happened. I am loving vanilla wow and i appreciate the work you guys are putting into the game i would just like some help figuring this out.

Try following:
- Disable firewall
- Disable anti-virus
- Remove all addons and delete WDB and WTF folders.
- If windows 8, run as administrator and/or in compatibility mode.
- Turn down weather effects in WoW settings as it rapes the game performance when it's rain.
- And ultimatively run command prompt by going to Start->Run->type in CMD-> type: ping www.google.com -t when lag occurs to check if you got packet loss.

Try using a VPN, that might help :)

Got the same problem. I start with 15-20ms and then after a minute or so it goes up to 400+.

If i ping google it just says ms is average 22...

Have to add that as of today I updated all possible drivers.

Also changed settings in my router to open all ports needed for the game.

Last but not least swapped through al available channels to see if that would increase my latency but still no sigar.

Currently I'm sitting at 1k ms wich is good for my current standards. Have had times where it would go up to 5k-10k ms now....

Only thing I can't do is change to a 5Ghz frequency since my networkcard doesn't support 5Ghz.

Anyone that has any other sollutions I can try? Otherwise I'm affraid I would have to quit in due time because this is just unplayable :(

I have tried all of these steps, and I was on windows 10 tech build. After trying all of the steps you mentioned I went back to Windows & thinking that may be the issue and at first it worked great, for almost an entire day. Today logging on i am seeing the same behavior, it.s been pretty constant for the last 3 hours essentially non playable. I am going to install a VPN now to see if it works.
