connecting to disconnected from server

My problem is i have been able to log on for months no problem. my roomate says he was able to log on early this evening. but now when i try or anyone else in our appt it says "connecting" for like 20+ seconds then "disconnected from server" thats it.
If i tether my internet connection thru my phone, i can get it to connect and log in but it is UBER slow on the connecting / auth / handshaking part but does let me in, but is pretty much unplayable not to mention expensive for data usage.
I have At&T ISP
