What do you mean you couldn't use them? Also, the fading happens at 30y afaik instead of 40y, so there's some free room here for your heals.
Anything other than LUF is going to hurt your performance, because not only does it have everything, it's also the only unitframe addon that updates hp bars as fast as blizzards default frames. Be sure to also download BonusScanner with it so that the estimated healing being cast on raidmembers is correct.

Just use tab to target enemies like you would playing anything in pvp, and forget about a keybind for targeting friendlies asap. If you really want to, then just keep enemy target on tab and spam that till you find an enemy who has a friendly target you can heal.

Like I said, tabtargetting to heal is going to be very useless.
What you want to do is create macros like:
/script if nil then CastSpellByName("Chain Heal(Rank 1)") end
/lunamo Chain Heal(Rank 1)
For every spell and whatever rank of that spell you need. This will allow you to mouseover heal/dispel by hovering over the Luna unit frames and pressing whatever button you bound the macro to. It also allows you to mouseover a player ingame outside of his frame, like his actualy character, and cast that spell on him.
This is my UI. Notice the raidframes stack from bottom to top and from left to right, aligned between myself and my target's portrait.
