Thinking of Rolling a Mage Twink - WTB food for thought!

Suuppp Nostalrius!

I have just joined the realm and I'm kinda looking for a few pointers and facts to get the ball rolling.

I would really like to get my Mage to end game and raid (Sheep Spam) at some point however I am very interested in twinking along the way so I have a few questions, hopefully you have read this far and care to answer them!? ;D

I feel more up for twinking in 10-19 however I am also interested in 20-29. What are the "must have" items for a Mage in Vanilla? and who is the best around currently in regards to classes in both brackets, Horde and Alliance that is; I like to know who to look out for.

Which bracket I decide to twink in will depend on two things however;

- Which bracket is busier? Common sense would tell me 10-19 however I may be wrong?

- Which bracket is more likely to favour a Mage?

Looking forward to responses, see you in game! :D

Go 20-29, hunters run 10-19, Gnome is good with escaping snares, Human is good if you have trouble with rogues, Troll isnt that good, UD is good against Fear

10-19 is the most active bracket but Mage is more powerful at 29. The best 19 Mages are Bb on Alliance and Jebroni/Vxs on Horde. For 29 Boungabounga on Horde is one of the best mages.

In my personal opinion 20-29 has far surpassed 10-19 as most active and organized bracket by a long shot. It all depends what you want to do. Rolling mage at 29 does not do the damage you will think without enormous tradeoffs. Horde have far more mages in the brackets as compared to alliance as well. (No purge/ frost shock spam). A gnome mage can be very potent with gear given the racials of EA and the Rocket Helm. But as mentioned usually hunters can kinda ruin your fun if stacked on the enemy team, but in the end mages can be fun as hell and possibly the highest skill cap of any class at 29 (especially with engi).

Hi dude,

I played a 29 alliance mage for a while – it was really fun, and pretty challenging at times. Schmuck is right that to survive and live you have to be quick on the draw. I’ll try and offer some tips. The bracket is very entertaining and pretty busy, with regular names and a twink guild on each side, and always at least 1 WSG game up. Alliance have less numbers so their queues are pretty much instant, and alliance players are often the limiting factor in getting games started/continued. There are cool peeps on both sides.

You’ve basically got 3 types of players at this level. Standard levellers, 20-29, who just drop in for fun, quests or taking advantage of a BG weekend. Then you’ve got budget or non “twinks”, which is the bracket I fell under – they are not really twink per se, just regular 29 guys with AH greens, maybe a blue or two from an instance and cheap stuff like armor patches and regular bandages. Then there’s a bit of a sliding scale upwards but the third category is the mega-twinks – these will be the guys will +spellpower enchants, crusdader/+15 agility, full engineering, some throwing iron grenades like they are going out of fashion and popping potions in every fight even against budget twinks, librams on each slot etc. The big spenders who look to maximise their characters.

As a mage budget-twink, you won’t be able to kill the mega-twinks usually. Simply put their stamina will outlast your mana. If you recognise this fact and come to terms with it, you’ll have fun. You can still have good fights with other budget twinks and regular players, and as a mage you get a lot of abilities which are non-damage related which you can still use to good effect to help win a game. Rank 1 frostbolt and sheep were probably my most-used spells. You can be quite valuable helping your teams mega-twinks too, or protecting their healers. It’s all about working out how to be effective with what you’ve got.

For me 29 is also more interesting than 19 because everybody gets a far larger range of skills and options.

Thank you all for your responses!

I'm very interested in twinking 29 as I feel it will be a little more rewarding that twinking at 19.

I feel ultimately end game raiding is where my heart is truly set but it would be rude not to twink along the way at some point, it of course comes to gold however.

I have never actually twinked 29 previously, I assume it is significantly more expensive than at 19 currently?

Yes, mage is good for lvl 29 and this server happens to have several good lvl 29 mages. But lvl 19 mage stands out by his FC and CC skills. Even non-twinked mages shine in good hands at 19, imagine how mercilessly a well-geared mage will rule lvl 19 WSG.
