Common PvP Builds

Common PvP Builds

by dippndots » Tue Nov 10, 2015 8:13 pm

This is just a thread for people to look at instead of making new topics. It's not complete by any means and I'm more familiar with Rogue than anything else.

Without further ado...

Warrior
-----------

Arms Warrior
Notes: Bread and butter. Obviously swap out Sword or Mace mastery if you're using those instead. Though maces are weaker than the other two. If you have an Ice Barbed Spear and don't see yourself getting something better in the meantime, you can do...

Polearm Arms Warrior
Notes: You can finish up Imp Heroic Strike and take Anger Management instead of Improved Charge.

Priest
--------

Shadow Priest
Notes: Bread and butter

Healer Priest
Notes: Inspiration is optional over Renew.

Mage
---------

PoM-Pyro Mage
Notes: Heavy on the damage, offers less control than Frost. But you will blow people up. You can opt out of Arcane Resilience for 5/5 Magic Absorption

Arcane / Frost Mage
Notes: Like PoM-Pyro, you can 5/5 Magic Absorption.

Druid
--------

Feral Druid
Notes: Primal Frenzy is worth considering, you'd take a point out of Ferocity and Feral Instinct

Hunter
----------

Marksman Hunter
Notes: You can opt out of the 10% HP and go for 5 points in Imp Mark. Hawkeye is also worth considering, though I'm not a big fan of it personally.

Survival Hunter
Notes: This is better alliance side since Horde doesn't get Paladins and Blessing of Freedom. I can't emphasize enough how much the trap talents can fuck over a large group of people in battlegrounds.

Paladin
-----------

Retribution Paladin
Notes: Personally I think Paladins should stick to healing in battlegrounds, they're too damn good at it, however if you want to do Ret, I think this is the best build for it.

Holy Paladin
Notes: Optional disregard Holy Shock and make Improved Hammer of Justice 3/3

Rogue
---------

Dagger Rogue: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#fheboxkZhfZAMec00o
Notes: I can't get over how amazing Elusiveness is in Battlegrounds. If you plan to focus on World PvP / Dueling you can opt for a 5/5 Master of Deception instead. Also, it doesn't really matter which poison talent you put that point into.

Hemo Stunlock Rogue: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#fheboxkhZhZxMe0bhRo
Notes: Also doesn't matter which poison you put that point into.

Seal of Fate / Hemo Rogue: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#fhebogzNZZxMe0bhoo
Notes: You can also opt out 2 points of Seal of Fate and put them into Dirty Deeds. I frankly think this is the weakest PvP build because Improved Gouge offers so much utility from being able to go back into stealth without blowing a vanish or blind.

Shaman
------------
Enhancement Shaman

Elemental Shaman

Restoration Shaman

Take these builds with a grain of salt, I don't have much PvP experience with a Shaman.

Warlock
-----------

I'm not going to touch Warlocks, literally never played one past level 20.

Closing
-----------

If anyone else wants to offer up builds I'll credit you and put them in this post.

I've been making minor edits, Mage actually has two more builds there now. Did you mean the original one (now Full Frost)?

https://en.nostalrius.org/talents
nost now has their own talent calculator

also I just can't agree to any of the mage builds

e.g. why would you go for improved arcane missiles and leave out the hit chance from arcane focus? do you want your CS + polies to get resisted?

edit: took a look at some other builds and honestly, most of them aren't really good

I don't really play Mage, didn't think about Polys hit chance there. I was hoping to get people to post builds since this is just meant for new players to look up the info. I'll adjust builds according to feedback. Most of those were made on the spot.

Also the rogue calculator seems to not work for me on nostalrius, I'll try again later.

Examples? This isn't about me sharing builds, It's about creating a source of information for people to go to.

elemental shamans in general prefer going for nature's swiftness instead of elemental mastery (something like this: https://en.nostalrius.org/talents/shama ... 3110050100

this is what you want as a healer priest:
https://en.nostalrius.org/talents/pries ... 2100510000
why? to be able to cover enemies with sw:p rank 1 to get blackout proccs and cover up the debuff with shadow weaving while also having silence + less CD on fears
still gives a good mana pool + survivability

the builds I linked aren't perfect either, just reflect general ideas of gameplay

in general it's just about what you personally prefer but some really make more sense than others

Mage is a disaster:

- Most people need at least 2 in Elemental Precision, depending on your gear. On the other hand, 5 in Arcane Focus is overkill.
- Improved Arcane Missiles is quite strong. AM does insane pushback and great DPS. Especially nice vs. Hunters or when you're going to take some hits without Ice Barrier up.
- Magic Absorption is not good. 4/5 is adding an extra 2% chance to resist spells I think. Since everyone is hit capped in PvP, these 4 points pretty much only give you 0.02x5%=0.1% of your mana back on any *spell* that hits you.
- Permafrost is amazing. Makes 5-8 kiting Warriors and Hunters way easier, even with latency. More duration is always nice (especially for Blizzard), which leads into...
- At least 1/3 in improved Blizzard. 1/3 turns Blizzard from useless into chokepoint hell for enemies.
- Frost Channeling is meh in PvP.
- Winter's Chill also sucks. You will rarely stack it up in a fight and points are better spent in Artic Reach and Improved CoC.
- Arcane Resilience adds a joke amount of armor. Only need it to get to Arcane Mind.

Hope your other specs are better

Almost all of the responses that you got here indicate a better understanding of their respective classes.
- Why you would post speccs for something that you didn't even play yourself/have any idea about it is beyond me.

Here is a list of Mage Speccs that are actually viable in PvP(it got long so I rather made a new topic):
https://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=26343

I'm kinda drained now, so I rather let someone else do the same for other classes.
