Prepare yourselves for this noob question

Prepare yourselves for this noob question

by MrCer » Sun Oct 25, 2015 8:11 pm

I'm leveling a new character and I saw that some of the rep gear from pvp factions are pre-raid bis.

I have two questions regarding rep grinding those.

Is ab/wsg/av rep easier to farm in vanilla or is current retail easier?

How Much /played Time does it typically take to get exalted with each individual faction?

I would say generally speaking, everything is wayyy harder in vanilla than it is in retail. Farming exalted with those pvp factions takes at least prob a day of /played time. What you should do is farm up to rank 6 and buy the pvp gear for pve purposes. I got revered with AV rep in 1 weekend, but it was AV weekend and it was alsoooo the first weekend AV came out.

rep for battlegrounds is way easier to get in vanilla than retail imo, the bg holidays just make your rep skyrocket. AV is the easiest rep by far.

also, the same cer from TI?

The only true statement you made was AV being easy. In vanilla WSG you only get rep for flag turns and turning in tokens. You must win alot or at least get a ton of flags over many games to get rep.

AB is just as bad. You only get 10 rep per 330 resources and rep from token turn ins.

Winning or losing these games makes no impact on rep aside from getting the flags/resources required to win.

I haven't played retail lately, but when I did I didn't recall getting rep from wsg/ab in any other way than you described (and you didn't even get rep from tokens because that was removed in tbc). Coupled with the fact that (iirc) there bg holidays no longer happen, I don't see why you would say rep is harder in vanilla. I remember rep being significantly harder to get starting at 2.0 simply because you could play a wsg and get 0 rep, when in vanilla if you play 2520 wsg games (and dont even get a single flag cap) you're garaunteed to get exalted just by turning in wsg marks (and that's assuming you do no "concerted efforts" or "for great honor" turn-ins).

Am I missing something here?

Try 50+ hours for Alterac Valley and 150+ hours for Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin, this is assuming you win most of your games. Before when it was constant premades vs afkers you would have 5 minute games for WSG and AB, which is how most people steamrolled their way to exalted. Now you are looking at 20-30 minute games on average, or 40-60 minutes games for AV.

Games are much faster in retail given the limits and changes they made, you also get more reputation per game. It still takes a long time to reach exalted, but it is a lot easier in retail given the faster pace.

How do you get more reputation per game? How much more reputation do you gain? I haven't played retail and those were the questions I was asking.

I'm not sure why a timer in wsg would make a difference, because unless you're getting rep in wsg (which is the only bg i'm aware of that got a timer) you might get 1 flag cap and the game end in 30 min, you're still not getting more rep. Additionally, there really aren't a whole lot of 30 min + warsong games on this server because people don't generally have the incentive to cap 1 and then turtle. I'm a little skeptical about this, unless you get rep from something other than flag caps.

I realize ab also had their resources reduced, so you get faster games, but wouldn't you get less ticks of rep? Or did they increase the frequency of ticks of rep while decreasing the total resources?

WSG rep in 2.0 got a huge amount of buffs to rep. Evey flag you defend gave rep, ever flag you (as an individual not just as a team) capped gave rep, and simply losing or winning matches gave rep. Compared to only getting rep from tokens and team caps in vanilla. Also consider the FC debuff came into the game, so turtles were a lot harder.

AB rep was easier in 2.0 because you got rep for winning or losing a match. You also get rep from capping and defending nodes. The rep per tick also came at every 160 and the game went down to 1600 resources to win. So in summary:

AB vanilla
Rep only every 330 resources
Rep for every 3 tokens

AB retial 2.0+
Rep for finishing game
+Rep for winning
+Rep for caping a node
+Rep for defending a node
Rep every 160 resources
These are just the buffs the rep grind got around 2.0, a few more came later on.

On the Nostalrius timeline it says that increased rep in AB and WSG will come with 1.10.
