Tips for a new Warlock

Tips for a new Warlock

by ovedbeyhan » Thu Apr 09, 2015 3:58 pm

Hey guys, this is my first Warlock ever, and i'm 41 at the moment with 30/0/2, so i don't have Death Coil yet (and possibly other things that might be helpful in PvP).
I wanted to ask if what i'm doing is the best course of action against classes / roles:

General Melee routine:
If i have my succubus out i wll use Seduction, expecting them to use WotF (for undead) so they waste their CD.
Dot them up and run untill the WotF immune wears off.
Attempt fake casting Fear if they have an interrupt, if it's successful i would get some range and Immolate + start shadow bolt spam.

General Caster routine:
If i have my Felhunter out i'll interrupt damaging spells, because interrupt CD is much longer than purging magic debuffs on me (such as poly ) 30 seconds vs 8 seconds i believe.
Use curse of tongues and dot him up, then force him to waste interrupt by faking fear.

Rogues:
Same as general melee routine

Mages:
Same as general caster routine.

Other Warlocks:
Same as general caster routine, but i also attempt to banish his minion and use Shadow Ward.

Priests:
same as general caster routine, but i also use Shadow Ward, and purge his stamina buff and shield.

Shamans:
Pray that he isn't enhancement, if he is i'd hope i don't get crit much and do general melee routine.
Pretty much having trouble with this one.
I make sure to have all possible self buffs on me to make his purge take out Underwater Breathing or Detect Invisibility.

Warrior:
I usually get wrecked pretty hard by the famous Whirlwind Axe, and i try to do the general melee routine but if he has many crits i'd be dead.
Also having much trouble with this one.

Hunter:
Dot him up, and hug him as much as i can so he can't shoot me, trying to avoid a trap i don't get too close (Dead zone is 5 yards right?).
Not sure if i should Fear him or his pet, i usually go with the pet and let my dots finish him off.

Druid:
When ambushed by a cat i do the general melee routine.
If i see that he's playing defensive i might get a Curse of Tongues on him.
If he's healer / balance i'll do the general caster routine.

If undead opponent, and WoTF to cleanse seduce, death coil and then time your fear to land as WoTF fades, or time your seduce to land.

Only thing you should be doing here is saving shadow ward for when their mind blast is close to finishing. Most priests will just rip your ward off of you if you use it to block SW:P damage. Save the hunter dispells for yourself, as you might just be eating away at the priests inner fire stacking buff.

You really need totem attack macros for this. Biggest priority is grounding totem since you can deal with tremor totem during the death coil. Also a good reason to skill up 1H weapons.

Use a succubus

Dots on hunter, siphon life & curse of weakness on pet. It's an attrition fight and comes down to gear differences. You could open up by seducing the hunter and getting into melee range with him and his pet and howl of terroring, but as you're still leveling every hunter will be BM so it's not a great idea.

Druid:

Probably your hardest since it's easy to suicide OOM against them while leveling and often times they can reduce your armor to 0 with just a faerie fire. Important thing is if you see him in bear form to be shooting fire at him since his feral charge will lock your shadow spells out if you're draining or fearing.

Having engineering will help you alot, will get you time to cast fear.If playing with sucu vs melee dont dot asap wait till you have the distance or you are in a comfortable spot.Always Deathcoil when wotf is up...it will grant you 3 sec in which wotf is fading...then try casting fear 2 times...why cuz manny people trinket the first fear.
Vs rogues, you can play with void to if u have engineering, the maine ideea is to resist the stunlock...if u play with succ seduce fast when u are in cheap shot, manny rogues will triknet(wotf) to land kidney shot..now its the oportunity to use deathcoil or survive the stun, then they will vanish into cheap shot..the main ideea is to try to keep distance and nuke him in the few seconds that you have left.If he kicks your shadow tree use reign of fire max lvl where you stand...it will make damage to him and most rogues panic.Dont worry that much about rogues less then 10% of rogues pop know how to play.Just make good use of the seduce/deathcoil/fear.You can even drain tank him if using void.
Vs mages play def and use cot on them...they will dispel it but buys you some time.Dispell asap frost nova and fear only when u silence the mage or he has cd on counterspell. When you get in shatter combo use spell stone if you have one.You can try spamming searing pain or cast imolate so they will silence only fire tree.Make good usage of your fear and silence and you can win....but beware elemental mages at 60 can be a pain in the ass....
Priest is one of the hardest class to beat in a 1v1 situation,i recomend a spellstone vs shadowpriest...dispell silence, dots or fear...never dispell his buffs..dont let em cast mind blast ,try silencing/fear.Try to keep your pet away from you or him when you will see a fear inc, they usually will try to get close to you to land fear...again a spell stone is so good vs spirest...
Vs healer priest...try spamming searing pain on him...no really cot him and spam searing pain and rank 1 corruption, drain mana is also good here.
vs Shaman..cot him and put your pet to kill totems...play with felhunter/sucu...they can easely purge void shield...is the same like rogues...try to get in a good position with fear/seduce(if sucu)/dc and nuke...dont worry about frost shock..i really like when they frost shock cuz they cant earth shock and intrerupt my casting.
Vs warriors...try to fear them after their charge(if they get to charge you).If they go in zerk and use berseker rage....try to seduce him if sucu...or dc and drain tank him...use your vw shield at 30% hp and drain:) hope for nightfall procs.
Vs hunter ..try fearing their pet first..and seduce the hunter..easy tactic..not really...if the hunter know when to feign death scatter shot or stun you..it isnt so easy...but the tactic is first fear pet then go yolo on hunter near him into the deadzone..aim shot multi shot combo hurts so much..so care if they feign death land trap or scatter and trap...if the hunter is bm and uses bestial wrath at the start of the fight..pray that you will survive the damage and drain tank the hunter,vs bm hunters i would use a vw for shield cuz most bm hunters use bestial wrath asap, the only thing left to fear now is the hunter(their trinket doesnt remove fear if i recall).Use your deathcoil defensevly for dmg and heal.
Vs warlocks....try banishing the pet first...and always use CoT on warlock...always...silence him when you see him casting shadow tree.If you have eng throw a greenade so you can get both pet and lock and banish pet...most locks will silence you when casting banish.
