A player cap of 5000 could be a easy & cheap solution to solve most of lags/deay issues which is the main problem of Nostalrius.

It cost 0€ to cap the population to 5000 players and make a queue, at least once online people will play the game instead of afk and risking to get back into the queue.

We'll benefit of the normal view distance, more accesible ore & herbs (a lot of people complain about this), and many more things that will make our experience on Nostalrius more enjoyable.

so you like waiting in queue for 7 hours?

I'd wait 20 min in queue if it's to play without delay/lags than log in instantly and realize we are 9900 online and can't play because of lags/delay.

yeah but would you wait in queue for 7 hours ++++ ?
because that's what you can expect with 4500 players in queue

in addition everyone will try to stay online by AFKing and moving every 15 minutes, have fun with that

I think that it might have something to do with internet provider. I myself have 40ms displayed latency, but 2-3 seconds delay. This happens anytime during EU peak regardless of server population, when i play at the morning everything is smooth and again it does not matter if there are 3 or 6k people online.
One thing that i noticed is that it always gets temporary (for about 30 minutes or something like that) better after server crash, even if there are 9k+ online.

80ms, and have 2-3 secs delay too on peak times. Problem is in host
Make 2nd PVP Realm, put 5k limit and it will be ok

Ping- 80 ms. Delays 2-3 sec every evening. Unplayable. And mage water is bugget at population 6k+, restore not 4k mana, only ~3k.

the shown latency does not include server delay as the ping request is always handled first ( looks better).
delay isn't 2-3 seconds, more like 1 second but still enough

regeneration ticks actually are bugged if it's laggy (getting only ~3.9k mana instead of 4.2k in best case)
so yeah it's lagging out regeneration ticks

Making a 2nd PvP realm would do nothing for lag unless its on another dedicated server which they do not have money for. And putting a 4-5 hour queue is not something I would want over a 1-2 sec delay which only occurs in a 2-3 hour window.

The problem right now is funds, maybe we could start a gofundme or crowdsurf for a new host/server but that would be a lot of money to raise. I know I would donate to that, but I think thats the only solution that we have right now.

I don't know about hours and hours of queue, i used to play on Archimonde FR on retail sometimes i was in queue at the position 15xx and it only took around 15mins to login plus blizzard didn't had a script that automaticaly logout people afk for x minutes, you could stay afk & online for hours as far i remember.

But i aggree about the fact Nostalrius need a new server, something more powerful but for this they need money.

It's easy to downplay this topic if you're someone who lives in Europe, and no matter the time of day you get no delays. But for the 1/3 - 1/2 of the server's population who lives in the US, the delays get a little overbearing between 6pm and 11pm server time. I personally am on the east coast of the US with a solid computer and an excellent internet connection, and the delays still make the server border line unplayable for me roughly half the time I'm online. So for everyone saying it's not the server, I beg to differ.

A 5,000 player limit might be a little aggressive. Perhaps 7,000? I notice that 7,000 is right about where the delay starts to hit critical mass and really get exponentially worse.

I will grant you, a login cap of any number really sucks. Being in queue is not fun. However, it is a necessary evil. How many great private servers rise and fall because they try - entirely in vain - to attract and retain every last Vanilla player out there? The resources necessary to do that make it impractical. Trying to do so without the required resources had to the fall from grace of more excellent private servers than I care to remember.

In my humble opinion, It is better to have 6,000 - 7,000 players consistently and happily online, than to have 9,000 online where 4,000 are having a sub-par experience. Please, Nostalrius, you are great... do not fall into the same trap as the former greats.

I must take a moment to say what an awesome job you guys are doing. Of all the aforementioned great servers, this one has been my favorite by miles. The working quests, scripted events, dedication and demeanor of the development and GM teams is second to none. Please, keep up the excellent work.
