[No] New character models

by dbh » Tue Dec 29, 2015 12:18 pm

I'll start by apologising if this has been mentioned and suggested!!

I know that not everyone will be interested in this and I don't know if this is even possible but! allowing for the new character models to be introduced.
I think it would be a cool feature if those who want better graphics and character models to have the option of downloading an update or something that would allow for it. I know a lot of people like the old vintage look and feel of vanilla WoW but I'm sure there are a lot of people that wouldn't mind playing with the new graphic/model update.

Thoughts? (Be gentle :D )

Modifying client files is also bannable.
I know this doesn't affect game play in your case, but if a modification is detected by the system, then GM's will have to ban the account. I guess the risk is small, but is is there.

Uhm. I feel poeple are not aware of how it could be done. It could easily be done in a way where only the client who wants the new models can see them. What on earth could people have a problem with if that was the case!?

On a side note: Changing textures to other textures are client side and it should not be possible to detect by the server. I dare say impossible.

Uhm, I feel people are not aware what Vanilla is. If you don't like it, there is always Retail.

On a side note: I clearly said "if a modification is found..." to highlight the fact that I don't know what they are able to monitor and what not, but also to state that it indeed carries a risk. If you chose to install the new models on your client and get banned, then you knew there was a risk.

It would be interesting to know what is detectable. Clearly the client has access to the MPQ files, but is there any API for the server to request the client to report something like a checksum of the MPQs or parts of it or of such stuff loaded into memory?
