Lock the PVP Realm

Lock the PVP Realm

In order to shrink the PVP population you could lock the realm. The only way you could start on the realm as a new player is to have been referred by a current player on the pvp realm.

This would allow population to naturally decrease as people quit to a manageable level while still allowing friends to play together through the referral process.

This also pushes new players to start on the much underused PVE realm.

It is already overpopulated. "Natural decrease" will take a shitload of time. Nostalrius needs to make another realm with available transfers, the sooner, the better.

What the handsome Undead said, but locking the realm would indeed be a start.
Greatness, at any cost.

What kind of realm are you talking about ? Fresh one but with the exact same patch progression ? It would split the population and while it would be profitable concerning the awful delay from 14:00 to 22:00 ST, the current community on Nost Begins PvP is its main appeal.

It would also mean they need to remove/adjust dynamic respawn mechanic on mobs and nodes to make it closer to blizzlike. Everytime such changes happens some bullshit bugs happen and you know whats next.

Also how do you expect the staff to handle thousands of manual character transfers ? It would be an insane workload, wouldn't it ?

A new PvP server with the same progression and available transfer is exactly what Nostalrius needs right now, yes. Transfers are absolutely mandatory, as people will not want to abandon what they've accomplished here - the PvE server opening has proven that. And splitting the population is exactly what needs to be accomplished. No vanilla realm is supposed to handle 10k people. That would be harmful to the community, yes. But if the new server was made for chinese players, and the playerbase would be split into english-speakers (server 1) and chinese (server 2), that would hardly do any damage to the community, as these player groups already dont interact and would lose nothing from being split.

As for the dynamic respawns, I was under impression that they were supposed to scale to the realm population. Perhaps it would become necessary to put a lowest threshold on it (so it wouldn't dip below blizzlike values), but that's it.

Handling transfers is the tricky part, yes. I'm sure that it's possible for GMs to process them in bulk, in which case if a new server for all players opens, then administration will be able to receive transfer appeals from entire guilds which would certainly ease the job. And if the new server was chinese-only, then all chinese guilds would just get moved into it, with guildless players being processed individually afterwards.

Of course that would still take a lot of effort on GM's part, and probably postpone the release of new content in the future, but does that really matter when the well-being of the server is at stake?

Fair enough, sounds like a good plan. They did manage to reduce delay and increase view distance though with last update.

Well let's hope it becomes like the PvE server suggestion (with better voice acting for Kryll this time maybe ? ) and happens within months.
