I think new characters should start with 1 gold or 50 silver.

I know, I know, thats not what vanilla is all about. But this would really take the load off. You could in the starting area buy yourself the starting set and feel better protected. You could get your spells and not be worried about it at first.

... or just stand in the starting area with your main and trade the gold.

am I the only one that doesn't have money troubles when it comes to learning skills and never has trouble leveling without buying gear off the AH?
it's a waste of money to buy stuff of the AH pre-60 IMO - I truly hate it when people come begging to me "pls gimme gold 4 items from AH pls pls :'((("

Actually, I am glad you brought this up. We should probably flip it. Instead of starting off with 1 Gold, you start off in the hole 1 Gold (-1 Gold). This could be advantageous back it ensures people play that are only dedicated and ensure you really have to earn your way.
