Sigh...

Lag =/= Latency (ping)

A ping of 230ms is exactly that a .23 second delay. If you had a ping of 4000, THAT would be equal to what the OP is talking about.

I'm in the US so don't play during the peak times (usually), but the times I have can cause me up to a 2 second delay.

Uh... you just contradicted yourself. I think you meant to say "Lag = >2000 ping" instead of "Lag != Latency".

I feel you on the lag though. Peak times are hit and miss for me. I could be lagging where it's unplayable, lagging where PvP is unplayable, or just right. I can't say anything about my ping since it stays around 100-130ms.

He is referring to "INPUT LAG/DELAY" not latency issues. This is caused by the server having to compute at ton of calculations due to the huge player base, has nothing to do with your broadband quality.

I have never really had problems, (outside of peak hours) until a few days ago, and my constant latency of 95ms on game has been jumpy from between 115-1700ms. Still trying to push through but the 1000ms+ is making it hard to stay on for extended periods of time.

I guess you're right (yet again), Aunstic. But the funny thing I have with my 65-250 ms on Nostalrius is more than the same 70-180ms on Valkyrie. Most interesting stuff here's that the amount of people is so much a difference, since as we all know there is too much players on Nostalrius. What is it, about 10k at least, ya? Valkyrie is at 400 most times (even though it's just identical to Nost in terms of blizzlikeness) and peak is about 800 at most. No lags whatsoever. On Nostalrius it's somewhat a challenge to open the ah window without dc. I'm not counting those minor shitcode when you sell vendortrash and the server kicks you...

The mass of the playerbase is taking it's toll.

Although it might be an exaggeration when you say "it's somewhat a challenge to open the AH window without dc", I have to ask if it is or not. Loading the frame might be an addon problem here if you're not getting insane amount of stuttering from the lag.

I do have to agree though. The playerbase is becoming too much. A part of me wants to agree with the people who want another realm, but a part of me feels like the population shouldn't be cut at all. If the devs implemented cross-realm interaction, I'd find the devs and push money through the mail.

I do not know much about the software behind a server such as this nor the hardware. But I wonder if there's a way to have one host server compute the Eastern Kingdom and another one for Kalimdor and a third one for dungeons/raids/pvp etc. Feel free to discuss it with me, I don't mind learning.

I use no addons for AH except for reset button. Hardly it's the cause... Have to admit though, that standing still for a minute after clicking the ah man sometimes helps without reloading the game. /shrug
What does it help?

My thoughts exactly. :geek:

I don't know If you people noticed but since a week it has started to get more and more playable, they have re-increased the viewing distance and there is less delay on spells during prime european hours.
The population is starting to rebalance itself and it's getting much much better since the people that came here after sodapoppin's huge advertising are leaving back to retail for whatever reasons. We're getting back at a 7k peak (9k during soda's publicity) and 6k average/4k on dead hours.
Thus they should not open a new realm and they know it, it would kill the server principal attractiveness.
Just let everything as it is now, it will pursus his stagnation. I think we're safe until a new big streamer decide to advertise for the serv again, in which case puting a 6k cap queue could be a possible move to counter it, not open a new realm.

Hmm. I've never seen lag this severe though. Even at the peak hours when it first hit 9.1k people online. I could still open vendor, AH, and banks up almost instantly both on my VPN (UK) and real IP (US East).

Now I'm wondering if it's hardware specs lol. If you're running on a 1998 build that weighs more than 6 babies, I may have a hernia.
