As a community, we should probably just stop using the term "ninja loot," as a means of description, because, if you ask 100 different people what it means, you'll likely get 100 different answers.
Usually, the term serves to simply spark a semantic debate about it's meaning, and derailment insues. Instead, perhaps we should use language that accurately describes the issue, and, in this case, that issue being that, the mage took an item that was of little use to them, whereas, the item was a substantial upgrade for the warrior. Was that unethical? Yes, it was.
