If they are both going to be pretty equal, I think the one that will go live first will gain the most popularity.
Of course you've got people that wait for a specific server because of reasons. Bur the majority just wants to play vanilla on a working server. And which one doesn't matter.

the players that want to enjoy vanilla will not like Kronos,
pay to be "good" in a game is always a bad type of game.

the journey itself is the reward in the game since that still gives me dreams up untill today.
when the journey is removed of the game, it has no purpose at all.
the game starts at lvl60 yes that is correct, the majority of the game will available and enjoyable at max lvl but to get there you need to fight and thats the beauty.

What are you talking about? Kronos is not pay to win or insta 60.
Cheering for one server is good but lying about another is not.

Character auctions make Kronos insta-60 because eventually you will be able to buy level 60 characters that no one wants anymore. I don't think it will be that way at first but once there's a population, it will happen.

But what would make Kronos character-auction specific, compared to us? Just curious.

Does Nostalrius offer character auctions? If not then character auctions are specific to Kronos.

The lack of character auctions would be a reason to play on Nostalrius instead of Kronos for those concerned about playing on a server with no pay to win aspects.

So, they announced - or said that they are planning, or anything alike - official character auctions? Not that lack of it would stop people from selling their old toons. Still, if true, it´s one more reason to look the other way.

It's actually not a "pay to win" mechanic if you actually think about it.

Character auction remind me AH from diablo 3.
Legit and control something that were illegal to make money over it.

This is totally twisted. I would prefer a server that try to prevent it rather than encouraging it.

I understand private server has to find a way to pay their host but shop and other thing like that is ruining the game.

I m sure people would prefer make donation instead. And all server should encourage it. I mean private server doesnt need that much money to sustain themselves ( donation should be enought ). If they make shop and stuff like that is to make money for their own pocket and that tend to corrupt the staff and make them lazy.

There's really no reasonable way to prevent it (that I know of), I mean, there are extreme ways to do it like IP locking or stuff like that but that would just piss a lot of people off. Really Kronos' logic is "it's going to happen anyways, so why don't we make it legal so that it can be safer for the people involved.

And this is just curiosity on my part, but if someone with a lot more experience in this could answer this question: How much does it cost to keep a good (stable, has ddos protection, etc) private server running?
