Nostalrius Begins - Quality wow vanilla realm (1.12)

Right, so I wanted to post in the "Getting Started" section, but it said it was for addons/installation tutorials etc. I wasn't sure if this was the right spot so yeah.

I am completely new to WoW (highest I got was to level 40 last year on official servers) and really didn't like the experience only because of how easy it was and felt literally no accomplishment to any level at all minus if I ended up getting level cap.

I just have a basic question, what are some tips or tricks all WoW players should know? Every online game has those "things" that all players should do (like in CS:GO to aim for the head then drag down for recoil), and I just wanted to know a few before I got started, thanks!

tl;dr: Gimme some newbie tips pl0x, like really newbie, like never even played WoW newbie.

Keybind all your abilities, change the actionbar keybinds to 1-5, q, e, r, t, f, g, c. (Or something similar)

Rebind a and d from turn to strafe. (You will instead turn with your mouse)

Bind autorun to something easy to press. (You can even use one of the buttons that I recommended for your actionbar and use something else in its place. )

Expect to die.

A lot.

Seriously, don't get frustrated when you die because you accidentally pulled one or two more enemies than you planned or you're trying to run away and that enemy stuns you and you pick up additional enemies.

Go to Interface and click Auto Quest text. You can still read it, it'll just pop up quicker.

Don't attack red mobs, run away from level ?? mobs and players.

Thats pretty much the first thing I do on fresh install. you can also keybind shift+1-5, q, e, r....

Go to interface options, there are many small tweaks you can get like more camera distance, extra bars, camera - I have it on 'never follow'.

Here are few addons im using myself.
Omnicc - very simple, shows you needed info like countdown of skills and other useful stuff, all you need is install it, dont need to tweak it.
LunaUnitFrames - when you decide you want to customize your unit frames health bars etc. This one was made few years ago on another private server so I think its the best one for vanilla. (if someone knows better post ahead)
Bongos - for your bars, bags, menus and other UI. I really loved bartender 3 and other addons that came in TBC but for vanilla there wasnt really one great addon for UI. Maybe ctmod but I find it has too much unneeded options which ofc you can just not turn on but still it wasnt that good in vanilla. also bartender 2 is just bad. So for naw I use bongos because it seems to be the better option of course if anyone got something better post please.
Atlas+loot/quest - gives you map layouts and boss drops on all instances and raids in game.
classicsnowfall - MUST HAVE say many people. your skills activate on buttonpush instead of realease thus saving you some fraction of seconds on each cast, mostly for casters or people who dont compensate.
Auctioneer - auction house stuff.


there are plenty of others that will aid you greatly, but its no rush, install addons when you think you need them, depending on what class you play, addons like cooldown/buffs/stun timers are important for many classes especially in pvp.

play the race you like aesthetically the difference is not significant enough.

If anything, the game isn't exactly hard, it just takes a lot of time. So if you were expecting to take on 5-6 mobs and live like you did in retail, expect to be gravely mistaken if you were to try that here (unless you are a frost mage).
