They are referencing the time spent in game, not the actual real world days. So if you created a character at lvl 1 and left it logged in for 24 hours, you would have a Level 1 character with 1 day of played time.
If you type /played, it will show you the total time played for the character.
While Mimma says they took 8 days and 8 hours to level, that could have been over a period of a few weeks or over a month.

Yes, my warrior is at 8 days played. And that took me about 3 months to do because of work, school, and social life.
