I completely disagree with the sentiments from posts in here claiming the game is full of douchebags and rude people. In vanilla, it's much to your advantage to be social and popular, make friends and allies. With that being said, this community is fantastic and I always am running into players who "get it" when it comes to vanilla and the opposite type of play style that Blizzard progressively kept introducing until we have the terrible game that is current retail WoW. These are the golden days and it seems that most players can appreciate that and play the way people did back then.
Current WoW is full of casual people with no respect for the game and fellow players, they're there participating akin to a Facebook game ie... Following the crowd and playing very selfishly and contributing to an atmosphere that makes you see your own faction as competition as everything to these type of players is a "look at me" goal.
I love the game and the community, this is the place to be if you're looking for what used to be MMORPGs. Besides Everquest, this is as good as it gets for that old school feel which includes a vibrant community inhabiting the world with you. Don't get it twisted, you will run into people whom rub you the wrong way as this is just a fact of life, whether it be at the bank, in traffic, or on WoW. These people are everywhere and no one likes everyone, it's inevitable you'll play with others whom you aren't fond of but even that seemingly negative factor is interesting to me- if everyone was happy-go-lucky then things might not be as fun, dealing with the undsirables really makes you appreciate your guild mates and friends and shows you just how important the social aspect is in this game.
