New account security: .account lock

by Sharax » Fri Mar 18, 2016 10:04 pm

Not sure if they will announce it, but here's a very cool way to protect our accounts.

If you have a non-changing IP, you now can lock your account to your current IP with the command ".account lock [on|off]"

Very happy with this.

Edit:

WARNING: Check with yor service provider if you have static or dynamic IP. Sounds like residential clients have dynamic and therefore shouldn't use this.

I think you would type .account lock on.

I am actually disappointed though. I guess my service provider gives me a dynamic IP address. Apparently, it would change every 2-3 weeks so this feature doesn't help me at all. :(

I think most people have dynamic IP addresses as opposed to static. Oh well. I guess we have to continue to cross our fingers. XD

Should have a country/ISP lock option.

I need to figure out if my IP is static or not.

Do you pay for business class service from your ISP?
If Yes: You probably have a static IP
If No: You probably have a dynamic IP

ISPs will sometimes never change your IP, and other times they will change it every few weeks. It is safe to assume you are dynamically assigned unless you pay for a static IP service.

If you have to ask, you do not have a static IP. There are probably less than 20 people playing on Nostalrius that have one.

I expect people to start locking themselves out of their own accounts any day now. :(

That's what I was assuming.
