Darkwinjax wrote:Look people, if nostalrius releases the source code and database, any vulture private server can pick it up and claim to be acting in the good, the reality is that if Nostalrius releases the source code and database publicly, any of these shady pservers can pick it up in an attempt to fish for players, or worse, use the information in less honest ways.

The reality atm, is that if nostalrius wishes to live on, it needs to be hosted somewhere else, with the same staff and admins that it had on nostalrius in charge of its maintnence and autonomy, this means that nostalrius MUST NOT and I honestly believe it is a mistake to make these 2 things public.

Either nostalrius chooses a server that they endorse and trust with their code / database, and OFFICIALLY support it, so the community as a whole can move on, or the community will be scared among these vulture pservers all hoping for the same thing.

IMO, either announce a trusty and worthy heir, and keep the same staff / admins working on this server, or simply let it die and cherish it for the good times we had, making OUR information public and revealing all hard work you had publicly so any shitty pserver can take advantage of it is in my opinion, a fate worse than letting this server die gloriously.

this x1000000 - just let it die, the other servers just want to steal the remains of the population.

I am the remains of the population and I have no problem getting "stolen" if someone does indeed offer a comparable service.

That doesn't mean I'm ready to jump on the first thing that comes along claiming to do that.
Or forego common precautions because of hope.

On the other hand I don't get all the "go out in a blaze of glory" shit, I expect to get a good 6months to a year entertainment from vanilla wow
if I find a server that follows ideas I found on Nost (blizz-like, no premium perks, no cash shop, no bullshit xp events, if it has a pve realm even better but not a deal-breaker)
Unfortunately my original forum account was locked out.
You can find my previous posts here.

Being cautious is fantastic in anything one does in life. I, myself, choose to err on the side of caution in anything I do. There are ways of going about it, however, that don't involve being an immature bigot.

Here are the facts:
1. Nostalrius was shut down by Blizzard.
2. Nostalrius announed that they would release the code for anyone willing to continue their crusade.
3. A group of fellow Nostalrians, who had the means, decided to accept the Nostalrius mantle and carry on for the server they all hold dear.
4. These Nostalrians decided to take action instead of wallowing with the rest of us, and made a site and forum immediately.
5. This brought a ray of hope to their grieving community.
6. These capable Nostalrians are patiently awaiting the release of this data so that they may rebirth the server anew.
7. While they wait, these Nostalrians are communicating with the grieving community on their Forum on the Vanilla.re site.

Nothing more, and nothing less.

If anyone disagrees, you are absolutely allowed to do so. However, lashing out at people trying to do this--and those who choose to believe in them--for no good reason is completely unnecessary, and not wanted by anyone. Please, for Nostalrius' sake, be respectful to your community, and your fellow man.

@Tekiro, please correct me if I'm wrong about anything.

I wont even bother reading ur post Aurkanthis, because you are blind.

Vanilla.re is nothing but a hallow shell, a website and forums spreading misleading information and disinformation.
They have lied to people twice already. 1. Announcing that they will have a nostalrius realm with all the characters up and running by 11th/12th of April and that they are intouch with the Nostalrius Devs EVEN THOUGH THE RELEASE DATE OF THE DB/CORE HAS NOT EVEN BEEN ANNOUNCED YET, IF IT WILL BE AT ALL.
2. Lying about the previous experience of hosting World of Warcraft private servers with thousands of players with 7 years of experience.

It got spammed on the reddits and on these forums for 3 days so it attracted mindless and voiceless sheep like yourself, thats logical and innevitable, obviously.

The "project" has no capable developers.
Just another vulture "project" run by randoms and you will find out soon enough if it gets to that point at all, which I HIGHLY doubt.

I have strong intuition and Im saying it once more, vanilla.re is WACK and hosted by idiots.

For whatever reason you chose to remain ignorant of my post, I will simply quote the very beginning and end for you. It has nothing to do with Nostalrius or even World of WarCcraft. It's all I really have to say to people who choose to believe as you do.

That's the problem here. You're just choosing to believe ANYTHING the first random group of newbie developers say. Like jeez, how did you end up on Nostarlius if you just believe anyone about anything so quickly. Shouldn't people as ignorant as that still be stuck on Feenix? Lol

              DISCLAIMER
Any server that advertises itself to have been given access to any of our data is providing false information and should be avoided. We will provide this information when the time comes and we alone will announce it. Note that we have not released any data yet and will not do so prior to announcing it. It's worth mentioning that being in contact with Nostalrius regarding said data does not make you, or any other server favored above others and should not be advertised as such. We feel that it's the player(s) that should inform themselves and make their own decision as to where to go. We also urge players to follow proper account security when joining new servers.

Ever hear too good to be true? Either those blindly supporting the new servers are completely braindead or they are in cahoots with the websites themselves in hopes for some rewards or other unfair advantages that these servers are bound to have. Not to mention that most are probably doing it to try to monetize off of the unfortunate circumstances. I don't think they should just release all of the information just yet, but know that I'm not gonna be trusting anybody that says anything until Nost themselves releases their information / an announcement about another server. Stop being so naive
