Regional composition of the server?

by Sulla1 » Thu Jan 14, 2016 2:53 am

I don't know about you all, but nearly everyone I've met since making my Alliance character has either been dumb (incapable of performing simple tasks in dungeons, expecting retail-level difficulty, etc), has been continental European/Chinese (i.e. speaks broken English), or both. When I was playing a few months ago with my Tauren warrior, I was really enjoying the population here - has something changed, am I overthinking it, or is it just that the Alliance attracts a different sort of player?

And, on a more statistical, objective note, what is the regional composition of this server actually like?

I was actually being serious. I'm not saying I dislike continental European or Chinese players, I'm simply saying I would prefer to be with native English speakers (Australians, Brits, North Americans), and I was wondering if I'm on the right server (PvP) and faction (Alliance), and if anyone notices regional trends. That's all.

Then go back to retail so you can join a regional server if you find that so much of an issue. I'm not sure if you are aware, but "native English speakers" are a minority in the private server scene, and are the third biggest population here, with European being on top. It doesn't matter what faction you go to, you aren't going to find the vast majority of them Austrailians, Brits or North Americans. This started out as a French only server.

There is a lot of variety here, the population is so big you can find almost every region represented, you just have to go out and find them. Also, the official language is English, so even if some players don't have perfect english I've rarely run into any problems communicating with anyone. This has always been the way Nostalrius has been, which is what makes it truly unique.

I see you play Alliance, I really think I'm on to something...

Also, the "go back to retail" line was just pure angst. I'm obviously not going to go back to retail just so I can speak English, I'd rather play on a server for the dumb, deaf, and blind than go back to that drivel.

If you had gone with the traditional:

Anecdotal evience+sweeping generalization=outlandish solution, it would have been a solid 8/10.

Firstly, I'm not trolling. Secondly, your shtick isn't remotely funny.

Seriously, what is the regional composition of the server like? Do most of you play with native English speakers? Continental Europeans? Chinese people? And on which server/faction do you play? I actually want to know.

I just started playing about a week ago on the PVE server and I picked Alliance because it had a higher population than the Horde. I have not had any issues with a communication barrier or rude people. (I live in the United States) The guild I joined is a mostly North American guild but even those not from NA still speak English. It may not be perfect but its not like I can't understand what they are talking about or asking.

So to answer your question, I can only go by what I have seen and so far it seems fine. Most private servers are based in Europe and you will always have a lot of EU players hanging around. Don't be such a xenophobe :P
