I know there was a lot of popularity in the Vanilla days for Ogres or Goblins to join the Horde and I saw a lot of people wanting High Elves on the Alliance. In fact, I think an overwhelming majority of people wanted High Elves during Burning Crusade.

What is the general consensus of a Vanilla themed racial addition to each faction in the veins of what some of the early Vanilla race desires were? Just gauging interest here.

Also, would your feelings on new starting content for each race ruin it? Would you be happier if High Elves started in Stormwind and Ogres started in Durotar?

If you want to play high elves then go roll on a BC server and play blood elf since they pretty much high elves that got exiled.

If you want to play an Ogre, go do DM and get the costume.

My honest opinion on this is that the second the game changes from vanilla wow into some modded version of it i will instantly quit and never ever look back.
In addition to that i find it unsettling that you don't seem to understand this project at all. I thought it was made perfectly clear that this is a replica classic server one for one. Its called nostalrius for a reason. "Oh this is so nostalgic, remember the days when we used to vist the ogre starting area and run about with our high elf characters" - said no one ever.

Thank you for the semi-real reply. Nostalgia for me is feeling similar feelings to the past, but I don't feel Nostalgia for Vanilla WoW because it's never gone anywhere.

So, you don't like the idea of Vanilla themed content additions, which is, in general, content that keeps with the feel of the original game and adds a small thing here or there to keep longevity/life in the project without compromising it, and would totally and entirely quit as soon as something was released that wasn't Vanilla retail? The concept here is one race per faction, plus questing for levels 1-10. Then either race would release to it's respective 10-20 faction zone. And this isn't an idea for a main Nostalrius server, more like Vanilla with a little extra. I've never seen any server be able to do this, or properly implement this and still make it feel legitimate.

How long do you see yourself playing pure Vanilla? Another 10 years, or another 20 years doing the same quests on the same characters and classes? Do you think you will be on this realm in 2030? By that point you'd have to be deleting characters to make new ones, though. This is assuming absolutely nothing changes about the game and it is the same as Vanilla.

I'm facepalming so hard

GTFO with this garbage

Devs have said this game is on a timeline and they do things in order to reflect a vanilla WoW we all played many years ago.

I agree with another poster, I came here to play vanilla, not some odd modded version of vanilla. The entire purpose of the server has went over your head. If you're so discontent with what vanilla has to offer that you're daydreaming about crap like this, seriously gtfo because you are the problem. Each expansion sucking even more than the previous one was due to dudes like you trying to fix what isn't broken.

Long live vanilla, long live nostalrius, you can go back to retail where they wipe your ass for you and let you race change all day.

Oh. I'm not talking about an expansion or raising the level cap or new end game stuff.

I'm not talking about doing something like this to the primary servers. I love vanilla and I'm not sure what you're upset about, I'm just looking for opinions. Ogres and Goblins were part of the Horde in Warcraft 2, and High Elves and Wildhammer Dwarves were part of the Alliance, and still are in WoW.

I mean an additional server that keeps everything as it was in vanilla with a few vanilla themed content additions. The problem is most servers do this horribly and implement unplayable garbage, not legitimate finished content.

The devteam have really good timeline and also the option to copy your charakter on a new TBC-Server in the future. We have 2016 and you asking what will be 2030 on a private server? I don't get your point.

I don't think the intent is for everyone to play Vanilla continuously for 10 to 20 years. You come back to re-experience the content at your own pace, accomplish your goals and then spend your time elsewhere. Maybe in 10 years, a different group of players want to experience Vanilla as it was and looks for a Vanilla server.

It's actually a ridiculous suggestion that they start modding the game to depart from the original to "keep interest". If anything, there would be a mass exodus. Such a suggestion would be better suited to a Vanilla project that doesn't care to be Blizzlike at all.

I'm just sampling opinions on what people who play true vanilla think about racial or possibly even class additions that attempt to add without changing the mechanics or feel of vanilla wow.
