You guys say that the server can't be shut down because it is located outside of US.
But what if they just hire a top french lawyer? Wouldn't that be doable?

(Big noob in law, plz explain to me why this would not work)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think its a simple matter of hiring a French lawyer no matter how good he is, hes working for a US company that has no 'jurisdiction' in France, it would probably be a lengthy lawsuit to go through European countries.

As long as Nostalrius Crew doesn't implement their own prepaids and starts to earn lots of $$$, Blizzard doesn't give a damn. I guess they have their own problems to solve, and taking down top Vanilla realm won't make players come back to them and buy their new xpac. Plus I think that deep down they like the fact that people love their game.

Redcap wrote:Yes, Blizzard could shut down a wide number of private servers hosted in the EU in the near future. Including this one, since it's hosted in France. It all depends on if this thing is passed and recognized by the EU trade union and the USA.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transatla ... artnership

The big thing the above agreement would allow would be a broader recognition of Trademark and Copyright retention of the companies that own them within the court systems of the partnership nations. France, Germany, and the UK would all roll over and kill servers once freshly printed C&D's were issued.

Nations not a part of the partnership would continue to give Blizzard the middle finger. CZ is one of these.

If Trump OR a Democrat gets elected, this thing will pass for certain as far as the US is concerned. It will be on the EU nations to see it through at that point.

Yes. TTIP could fuck up a lot of things including this server.

this, basically.

if anybody was around when wowscape got man-handled by blizzard, they'll know that the main reason for this was due to wowscapes owner (Peyton) got filthy rich from donations and they, blizz, basically didnt want people to make money off their game.
the lawsuit ended with wowscape having to pay millions of dollars due to "theft"..

also there were a lot of other servers involved in the DMCA shutdowns/lawsuits, such as chaoscrusade (which was the home of burlex), but afaik only wowscape had to actually go to court for this.

and really I dont think blizz minds that there are private servers, it just keeps the spirit alive in a sense, as long as the private server community doesnt make a living off the copyright stamps of others

No. Not in this case. There are hardly any people from the vanilla days left in the WoW development team. And the people that are in it now truly believe vanilla to suck compared to current WoW. And they are offended by the notion some people disagree with them.

The server owners could pull the plug at any moment for a thousand reasons including getting tired of dealing with the hassles or paying the upkeep or whatever. That's probably more likely, not that it's going to happen any time soon but still, this thing isn't going to be around forever. Enjoy your time here and don't worry about it.
