I am with Wrathan here; finding good GM's ain't easy. Nostalrius already struggle with lack of GM's on the two existing servers - with TBC coming up also it will be very hard. Funding is the easy part here.

The thing is, while I agree 100% that the hard part is finding GMs etc I don't see why that makes a difference when it comes to making a new server. In theory the player base would just be split further, so the number of issues etc. should be the same no matter the number of servers right?

I think clustering, depending on if its going to work well, should fix the population "issue" better than any second, third, or fourth server ever would. Noone would lose their time invested, could still play with all of your friends, etc.

If anything we should focus on having 2 separate servers at least for BC. Vanilla is what is at this point but we can change that with BC.

imo Nost team should make some goals to reach to open new PvP server. smth like, we need X amount of money for server, donate to Y paypal account for example.

I'm sure the funding will not even be a problem.
Enough people both on the forums and in game are sick of overpopulation etc.
And if it becomes a reality that we can fund a new Vanilla PvP server (without transfers, from scratch) which we can; then people will pay for it. I'm convinced of that. As long as it is a neutral source which is incorruptable to which we send our money, it should not be a problem money wise. I'm sure these institutions exist.


But, now that this is coming closer and closer to actual realization;
How would we keep gold sellers and farmers away from the new server?
How do we make sure they don't clogg up everything again..
Is it possible to ban Chinese IP adresses?

Plus, we would need to find mature and realiable people to be GM's without them being paid for it otherwise we run the risk of Blizzard shutting this down like so many other private servers.

Why would you need more GMs? If you're taking the current PvP population and splitting it up over two servers, is there really incremental work servicing the same population?

im willing to be that if there was a second server, we'd have 2x 12k people playing. i am sure there is a lot of people NOT playing because of the china lag. if the clustering does fix the lag we will instantly be at 15-20k online.
