Look people, if nostalrius releases the source code and database, any vulture private server can pick it up and claim to be acting in the good, the reality is that if Nostalrius releases the source code and database publicly, any of these shady pservers can pick it up in an attempt to fish for players, or worse, use the information in less honest ways.

The reality atm, is that if nostalrius wishes to live on, it needs to be hosted somewhere else, with the same staff and admins that it had on nostalrius in charge of its maintnence and autonomy, this means that nostalrius MUST NOT and I honestly believe it is a mistake to make these 2 things public.

Either nostalrius chooses a server that they endorse and trust with their code / database, and OFFICIALLY support it, so the community as a whole can move on, or the community will be scared among these vulture pservers all hoping for the same thing.

IMO, either announce a trusty and worthy heir, and keep the same staff / admins working on this server, or simply let it die and cherish it for the good times we had, making OUR information public and revealing all hard work you had publicly so any shitty pserver can take advantage of it is in my opinion, a fate worse than letting this server die gloriously.

Amen to this. Nostalrius as it were is dead without its staff backing it. Perhaps the ISVV and GM teams. would be able to continue, but I highly doubt the admins (Viper and Daemon) will ever be able to again. I have my fingers crossed as much as the next person- but this has to be done right. Unless an official announcement is made by the Nostalrius team, I won't be there.

We know the strength of these links, and we also know that they do not need a special WoW realm to survive. However, we will still be publicly providing everything needed in order to setup your own “Nostalrius” if you are willing to.

Today is also the day where Nostalrius will start being community-driven in the truest sense of the word, as we will be releasing the source code, and anonymized players data (encrypting personal account data), so the community as a whole will decide the form of the future of Nostalrius. We will still be there in the background if you want us to, but will no longer take the lead.

No matter how you look at it, Nostalrius will never be the same, but that doesn't mean that any new project(s) that are taking it upon themselves to continue the project are unworthy. We at Vanilla.re are offering to continue Nostalrius as close to the original product as possible, following all the same beliefs of what a true blizzlike vanilla server should be.

I can understand people not believing that it will go anywhere and/or the staff "don't know what their doing", but enough with the accusations that the project is only there to email/account farm to use the information in malicious ways, because we're not. By all means be wary and follow common account security tips, such as not using the same password and/or email/account name on Vanilla.re, we encourage that, but please don't sit there and make wild accusations about us with no proof.

We only want to continue the vanilla experience as close to what Nostalrius was delivering it as possible, you don't have to be there if you don't want to, if you'd rather not play anything other than the original Nostalrius.

You're obviously delusional and are too attached to even think rationally, you just want to keep playing on your shitty character, the moment this information goes public and multiple servers pick up the source code and database you just split the PvP server in atleast 3 different new servers (From what I can even think of, which are the number of private servers who say they will host nostalrius once the source code and database are released), I'm not addicted to the point of thinking it's even going to be the same because it's not, but not that a r9 shitter paladin playing on 1k pop PvE server would understand this, so you can go continue your addiction on whatever russian hosted vulture server you want and I can guarantee you that many other idiots who think like you will follow, just to another vulture, leaving this community ultimatly scatered.

And FYI, if you think that it's only YOUR guild and your group of friends that comprises the community of nostalrius and you would be fine rolling in w/e server you and your group of friends chose to play, you should realize that oposition, other guilds on this server that compete with you, either enemy factioned or same faction are also part of this community, and you WON'T get them all to reroll on the same server if there are 50 different pservers hosting the same service, this could be different if nostalrius CHOSE the new host and directed the community there. But you obviously don't care about it and just want to continue playing your shitty character since you never even experienced what this community is in it's fullest, you would content for a small fraction of it, which is what you actually experienced - and that my friend, compared to what I experienced on this server, is a grain of sand in the fucking desert.

And that's the reason you will contend with anything other than what nostalrius was 1-2 weeks ago, your standards are lower than mine and several other people, and those other people won't follow you or where other people who think like you decide to go, because vanilla.re isn't the only one claiming to this, valkyrie-wow is going to do it, firestorm will also be doing it and you can bet your life on it that there will be more, you think even 1/5th of the population will just follow where you decide to go because you advertise it on forums or talk loud? The only solution to this (with the amount of damage that would be acceptable to suffer) would be for nostalrius to endorse the one and only option for it and make it crystal clear that they are still in lead and that nothing has changed from 1 week ago except for server host, if this doesn't happen, anyone with the standards that nostalrius provided them for what a Vanilla server is supposed to be is gonna be gone.

Letting the server die and rip in peace is euthanasia compared to dismembering it alive like this, and this is coming from someone who spent way more time than you on this server and my character, but like OGs post describes, its about the journey and not the end. While being quite annoyed that my path has been cutshort by blizzard like every other player here, i'm not going to be taking the sideroad into another trail that pales in comparison to the one i've walked thus far.
