They have removed API functions at times yes. They have never banned anyone for using addons that are doing stuff that would be ok if you did it without addons. So, yeah, if you can do something with the API, that does mean it is allowed unless what you are doing is itself not allowed. (Spamming, scamming, exploiting bugs, posting non-english in public channels etc.)

Buying stuff on the AH is allowed without addons and thus doing it with addons is also fine.

I'd have a lot more sympathy for a request to allow crossfaction mailing than for trying to get players banned for running addons praying on players trying to use a public auction house as their private mailing medium. That the API functions are fine to use is a core wow principle much more important than the principle that you cannot mail the other faction.

yeah but they banned the mage who was giving out water and stuff. Anything botlike i.e. not looking at your screen even if you were pressing your keyboard will most likely result in a ban. These auction snipers weren't normal or humanlike at all buying your auction in split seconds before the auction house can even refresh. We were fine with taking the risk in posting our stuff in the neutral AH but these bots seem to be stepping it up a notch, it's not even a risk coz it's downright impossible to transfer your goods when they're on duty. Those who defend them must not have experienced getting their goods sniped / are the ones who were sniping. You can snipe, just dont use automated stuff to snipe the AH.

The point is, they're not doing it legitimately.

He was banned because it was their determination that he was botting to stay online.

He says that he wasn't.

Regardless of what you or I might think about the issue, if we believe that he was cheating to stay online or not, the fact remains that he wasn't banned for using the addon that traded water. He was banned for allegedly using a bot to enable him to have the addon running without being at his computer for longer than is otherwise possible.

Thank you for clearing that out. But the fact still remains that on grey issues, it's always up for the Staff to decide. If you're not sure, don't do it.
As for me, i'll keep on putting baits and reporting those whom i think are bot-sniping AH.

As for me, I just made a post on the suggestion forum to allow cross faction mailing to avoid pointless frustration, waste of GM time, potentially illegitimate bans and possibly horrible rules against using the API.

Honestly macros add-ons and scripts shouldn't be bannable it was allowed in retail and was part of experience gms only intervened if ppl used other programs to control char without player being physically present playing char

This is a pure blizz like server admins aren't going to implement suggestions that weren't in vanilla ... Otherwise they would end up losing all credibility

Amen to that.

Possible get banned. Cause some of us use legit play (just checking posted auctions manualy) to snipe from NAHs and its not bannable. Just me saying.
