You wanna stop the gold sellers, you ban the most of Asia. Thats the ONLY way to effectively stop it, because its ALL coming from that source, it has ALWAYS been that source, since the days of actual vanilla wow its been the chinese gold selling.

Except we had gold sellers and botters on the server almost as soon as we launched, while the Asian playerbase was still tiny. The only way to really get rid of the problem is for people to stop buying gold or power-leveling. As long as there is a market, there will be those willing to satisfy that market regardless of what we do. For similar phenomenon, look at the global drug trade.

Ban buyers it is so far the most efficient to prevent sellers

We already do but apparently there are enough players that believe they will get away with it so it keeps happening.

It's a plague. Incessant spam messages from hijacked accounts, plundered accounts, ruined economy, divided playerbase, insane lag and BGs full of incompetent, uncommunicative noobs. Nostalrius turned out to be a top quality server with good scripting and caring developers, gaining an extremely large playerbase and being hailed as the best private vanilla server. Do you really want to see your project fall because of some slant-eyed scammers and uncommunicative baddies, clearly unwelcome by the community?

Make Nostalrius great again. Build a (fire)wall.

Pretty much. I consider Nost the primary #1 Chinese vanilla wow server and when discussing in Reddit I will refer to it as such. An asian player even posted today asking what server would be good to play on, I recommend Nost. I've jumped shipped to another vanilla server (which I won't name but its #2) and will stay there until actions are taken to remove the chinese player base who is destroying the server slowly but surely. Its simply not enjoyable to play here.

Pottu said something about having sellers before the Asian population was high...are you sure it wasn't high? VPNs and whatnot right? You should stop allowing VPNs and ban actively for their use btw. It seems a fairly strong % of your player base is farmers and sellers these days, far more than anyone is willing to admit, I have no real numbers, but I'll be dammed if it doesn't FEEL incredibly high. The rest are people who only enjoy making others miserable and Nost is simply the best place to make others have a miserable time, simply because of the numbers. I'll gladly trade quantity for quality and the quality in my new home is VASTLY superior.

Hrair - I am honestly amazed (in a good way) over you comment. Thumbs up.

No one is denying the server is laggy with 13k players online and that it's a problem with a big part of the community unable to communicate in English and that bots/cheating and goldspam. But you can never have a serious constructive discussion when people use racism, xenophobia and bigotry in a forum.

It IS possible to discuss these things without using bigotry.

You don't like having a large part of the community as Chinese, that's fine. But instead of QQ why not post serious posts like some people do but most don't.

An "asian server" would do nothing, the gold farmers and sellers aren't going to go there, so you solve nothing, what you would get is probably 500-1000 players from that region who actually want to play the game normally who move, then move back because of lack of players. The remaining chinese gold farmers and sellers are still on the main server because their whole goal is to make a sub-business and make $$$$$ selling gold to us, that is all they care about, so they aren't moving.

So you increase server cost and responsibilities while also solving absolutely nothing.

No, the ONLY solution is putting in place a ban for use of VPN software (which can be detected), that would stop the farmers and sellers, and nothing short of that will work. Servers that do actively ban for VPNs don't have the gold selling problem Nost has...and Nost is the only private server (with any notable population) that doesn't ban VPN and is the only major private server with a gold seller issue like this. 2+2=4 people, its not hard to figure it out, its just the GMs here don't wanna do what must be done and their server is going to crash and burn in a few months time as the people who wanna play get fed up with the whisper and trade spam and leave for good.

Fix it or watch it fail.
