Aslan wrote:The whole fresh start stuff is over anyway after 6 months, from then on its just a decision if new people roll on a less populated or more populated server, a pve or pvp server, a server with aq out or a server with bwl out. Compare that to warsong vs. emerald dream, warsong always had more people on it. How can you think that any of the servers will be low in population, are you kidding? :)

Besides... dont we all want all servers to be populated?

You're comparing Warsong was 12x rate vanilla server vs. ED 1x rate. Not to mention ED had a server cap of 1.5k ppl, so there was a queue for 2-4hrs at peak while Warsong didn't have a queue up.

After 6 months things will be worse, not better. People still rolled K2 first over K1 even though K2 had BWL out. K1's leveling scene was dead for a while. Though the server maintained raid logging guilds, they start to slowly die out with people quitting and no replacements. All over social media, including Kronos forums, people suggested joining the new server for new players for a better, more social experience.

That is the grim future of the older server.

I would love it if all servers were populated all the time, but that is not going to happen without proper measures. I mentioned 4 possible solutions, but the team seems shortsighted with their current short term goals.

I repeat: You cannot pass up the experience of a fresh launch if you like MMOs. The world PvP will flourish. The community will be hustling & bustling all over the world; questing, gathering mats, doing 5 mans, making friends and enemies, while the old server folks sit on their barrels and wagons in Ironforge waiting for the BG queue to pop or the clock to tick 7:00 to start heading out to clear farmed raids.

The eff do you expect people to choose?

I think that this situation is a tad different from the K1/K2 situation. What dragged me away from K1 is the fact that they had an XP event, so you didn't know who leveled up legitimately and who just leveled their char in a day. I probably would've played there if it weren't for that, as the queues on K2 prior to the DDoS were awful.

Nostalrius PvP is just further in progression. The main reason people don't want to roll on the old PvP server is because they think it will be dead and there will be no one to do dungeons/quest with. If half of those people rolled on the fresh server and the other half rolled on the old realm, we wouldn't have this problem...

mfw people compare nostalrius to the absolute shitstain of private server wow emulation which throws their og population under the bus just to grab some of the desperate nost refugees to funnel them into their character auction rmt and tauren riding mech striders server, just to be left with ghost towns on BOTH servers after the superior server opens up again.

why cant you all just stop bitching and appreciate the fact that we can play on a server which isnt SHIT, be it PvP 1, PvP 2 or PvE ??? youre delusional if you think either server takes a population hit, ALL servers will be packed .. even the PvE which people swear was perfect population wise before the shutdown.

I wonder how people can be so miserable to each other. After all we all love the same game, but this unreasonable hate becomes evident everywhere on retail forums, wowservers reddit, the server owners very own discord and even on our good old nost forums. Why take away the fun from others when were fighting the same fight ?

Yeah the reason why I hopped over to K2 was the x7 rate for experience aswell. I logged on and joined an old guild of mine. Everyone had like 3 characters online at all times, the whole population could be cut into 3 if you wanted to know how many actual players there are. It was such a mess, everyone had everyones account data, couldnt even tell who is playing where currently. Why would I play on a server where everyone received 3-10 free lvl 60s?

Saying that warsong was more popular than ED because of the lvling rate... meh, by that logic al akir would have beaten the two, I have no clue how the population was there but wasnt it quite irrelevant?

No reason to quote the entirety of a big post if you're just going to reply with two words.

From my anecdotal evidence of people hitting me up on my shitty stream/PM's as of late, is that people are excited to pick up their old chars and continue on with their adventures for the most part. Whether that lasts for any meaningful time is up for debate. I don't know for other GM's, but a lot of my former guildmates are frothing at the idea of returning, even though by all measurable insights, we were complete trash. It's almost as if temporary nostalgia is at play, at least until they face the daunting idea of having to grind out BWL/MC all over again. It'll be fun to see how this pans out, but I know personally I'm excited to play my old chars again.

I like the comparisons between Nostalrius and servers with like 700 people on them. The old PvP server won't die. Play where you want to, and shut the fuck up.

Basically all the guilds are coming back to the old server.
No reason for it to die or be concerned about it.
What can POSSIBLY go wrong.
