These people got exemptions for keeping the stuff because a GM responded to them.

Too bad for the people who had tickets out and didn't get a response.

They should know something is wrong with their policy when having a GM respond to your ticket before the bans go out is the one and only factor determining if you get a "thank you" or a "permanent ban without a chance to appeal".

this is just common international business practice.

Nostalrius isn't a business. It is not Nostalrius who is being ignorant.

Users that click on the 'I agree to the Terms of Use' box when they can't read the language it's written in are being ignorant. Every single player that can not communicate in English has lied to Nostalrius. It doesn't matter how many of them are on the server, their morally wrong behaviour shouldn't be rewarded. If a player can't communicate in English then Nostalrius has every moral right to ban the account of the player.

coming from a basement dweller who has never set foot in the real world. I wonder how far that ignorance will get you. :P

like it or not, Nostalrius is "TOO BIG" to be considered a pet project anymore. you either take measures to make sure the server and customers (IE PLAYERBASE) are prospering, or you fail. reality check, this is an MMORPG, and an MMORPG requires a playerbase to be considered an MMORPG. the only reason this server is not in the dumpster with the other servers is because of the promise of delivering an experience as close to vanilla wow as possible. people love playing the game, they love playing with tons of people here. it only takes a history of bad reputation, mistakes, bad coding, disruptive staff, and worst case scenario; becoming unfun to play, to ruin that experience.
if you think I am wrong, please tell me how the other servers died and why majority of the players moved to here? also explain to me why another bigger, more hyped server may not cause the same effect to this one?
the honest truth is that, you have to fix your mistakes, and continue the focus of delivering that promise given from the beginning. right now, I only see a downward spiral of communication (even worse then before) and future planning. this is seriously no different then the other big honcho server that recently dried out due to its history and bad reputation from its mistakes.
I personally don't want to see this server become a bad statistic like the others before. As many people want to see the Vanilla promise through, I do as well. but I do not want to change my style of playing vanilla WoW because a fear of 1 mineral/herb node possibly being bugged and getting permanently banned for reporting it. vanilla wow is ALL about time investment and community. in order to succeed in the game, you have to be able to farm/gather resources required to push you and your team through the content.. that's just how the game is.
sooner or later, people wont bother reporting bugs, wont bother reporting exploits, wont bother PTR testing, and eventually, wont bother even playing. :?

then you will be just another statistic on those very low pop servers still around. ;)

do the right thing and reconsider this issue as a whole.

You have to be beyond stupid to get banned by this, alarm bells should have been ringing loud and clear if you pick an herb and it doesn't despawn like the other 1000 herbs you have picked. I could see picking it 1-2x more just to verify that you weren't hallucinating but after that... give me a break

tbh alot of people got banned for just herbing at this time. they benefited from the bug but they clearly werent exploiting by taking one node over and over. they stopped when they were told mining/herbing was bugged and to not do it. basically if you were herbing or mining at the time of the bug, you had a very high chance of being banned. all these kneejerk permabans do is reinforce our knowledge that the staff here is poor
