Fresh start to get everybody on the same page! Possibly keep an old realm for the people who were on before.

Please return with the original server and database. I playedon nost since day 1 with an almost bis priest who was in the process of gathering consumables for AQ. I'm not going to go through all the trouble of doing that another time around (even the thought of all those DM North/East runs is giving me the fear.)

Both sides have their merits honestly, but here's my 2 cents in case anyone cares to read this:

On the argument of "Keeping Our Old Characters" I can understand the appeal that people have but a thing many are discrediting is just exactly who will return. It isn't like the server will resume and life will just pick back up where it left off on Nostalrius. I personally was really proud of my rogue and loved it to death, was very sad to see it go though I don't really think if the servers were to magically come back up that my entire guild would return, maybe a good number but I am certain I would miss a few of my friends that truly made the server worthwhile.

On the argument of "Starting Fresh" you would lose your characters which a lot of people do not want considering the investment we gave them. The thing here though is that this would be the best approach especially if they could anticipate turnout and make multiple servers accordingly. For a relaunch, I feel this would be the best approach given how unpopular the opinion is because a big thing with servers is the feeling of starting over fresh. This is why so many pvp server players rerolled on pve, because they could do something over there. We had a couple of guilds like that on the pve server.
Anything posted on this account is said on behalf of myself and myself alone. None of my posts are influenced by guild affiliation and any issues you have with me should be taken up with me. Anything positive or negative is said by me, not my guild.

Players who had characters and were active since launch are the very reason why Nostalrius shutting down community backlash happened.

A fresh start with new servers is fine, but the older PvP/PvE servers should be there too. There would be a massive backlash against Nostalrius if the older players were ignored.

Personally I think it is too much trouble for them and they'll just release source code. Just my opinion, hope I'm wrong.

I want my old char back. Mostly to talk to old guildies again who didn't keep in contact.
Second of all I don't want to spend another year, I wanna continue where I left off in my goal to be the first Thunderfury hunter.
