u gain anything by being exalted with all the goblins? except merchants?

No -- there is nothing to be gained in classic WoW, other than the satisfaction of being exalted with Steamwheedle.

well after vanilla those were needed for 'The Insane' title but I guess that got implemented with TBC and not vanilla - not quite sure

At some point they release a TBC server where you can transfer your character to, sooo you can get rep now and it's useful in TBC

It makes pirates hate you 4x more, don't know if that's somthing you where going towards (And when BC pops up if you move it'll give you 20 or 15% more discoutns on everything Vs 1.12's 10% Only @ honored.
