Abusing the pathing system to engage unreachable Bosses ?

by Tig » Sat Dec 26, 2015 12:42 am

Hello fellow Nostalrius players,
As some of you know hunters can use their pets to engage in boss fights in the most bizarre places.

For example in UBRS between "The Beast" and "General Drakkisath" you can send your hunter pet towards the boss of LBRS "Wyrmthalak" and make him walk through a couple layer of walls directly into your group in UBRS.

Personally this feels like an exploit and a violation against the ToS, however many people believe it to be absolutely normal sending a boss from a different dungeon through a thick layer of walls.

If you bring up this subject within a raid you'll often receive responses like:
"I believe this also worked on retail."
"Dude, everyone does it so it's okay."
"It has been done for months and there has never been a complaint about it."

As an honest player who's highly against exploiting and bug abusing, I'd like to have an official statement about this case - whether this is really a part of vanilla or whether this is a more serious case to watch out for / avoid.

Best Regards,
Tig

PS: Another case would be "Magistrate Barthilas" in Stratholme - using the hunter's pet you are able to engage him in combat before opening the back-side gate, preventing him from running away and thus making it able to farm him right at the entrance.

The boss running through the wall part should, in and of itself, be fine. It is simply how certain mobs move in order to not be too kiteable or even trapable.

Sending the pet should also in principle be ok. As long as you aren't using some other exploit to make it path weirdly/not agro mobs/etc.

You are however wise to be wary of people saying that something isn't an exploit or that it is ok because everyone does it. I've heard this claim made about clear exploits like wallhacking through the locked door in Scholomance.
Pristine realms... Industrial levels of stupidity.

So the two cases mentioned above are generally okay and accepted ?

(Skipping to kill the complete trash and basically the whole dungeon of LBRS by simply pulling the end boss from LBRS into UBRS and farming "Magistrate Barthilas" next to the dungeon entrance in stratholme by sending the hunter pet through walls/closed gates)

These are no way acceptable from what I can see. It is not something intended to be allowed.

The UBRS one is completely bannable. I know someone who was running the other day, and a GM whispered them and said if they helped the hunter do it in any way, next time they would all be permanently banned.

Do not allow any hunter to do this in your group. We kicked a hunter out of an UBRS the other day for refusing to not do it.
