2 clients, no multiboxing?

VI. Multiboxing
Multiboxing refers to playing multiple characters simultaneously. This can either be achieved by using multiple machines to run the Game or by running multiple instances of the Game. The following rules are not meant to be exhaustive, and using multiple characters to level, farm reputation, run dungeons, do raids and/or engage in PVP is considered Multiboxing. Each case of Multiboxing will be judged individually and thoroughly. There are a few specific situations where you may have two characters in-game simultaneously, *only while both characters are in a major city*:

Transferring items between accounts;
Using professions, as long as no farming or material gathering is involved;
Crafting, enchanting, banking and/or for trading purposes that does not include the Auction House.
Portalling a second account only to and from major cities.
Playing simultaneously on both PvP and PvE realms. *Not restricted to major cities*

So i were a little curious about this statement. Do anyone know if nostalrius consider multiboxing being on 2 char at the same time using 2 clients on 1 computer having 1 character on follow (no software)? Or is this also restricted inside capital citys?

Multiboxing is having more than one (multi) client (box) open at a time.

The only exception is trading between accounts. This has to happen inside a city and one of the toons has to log off after the transfer. Basically, they are throwing you a bone so you don't have to wait several hours for mailed items.

Wonderful sentence - "throwing you a bone" :-)

Beside that, the waiting time for items between accounts was one hour in retail. I am not sure what it is here on Nostalrius, but sometimes I receive items from my other account much faster than one hour.

I have had C.O.D. items show in like 15 minutes, and I have had them take 2+hours. Pretty random.

I'm going to piggy-back onto this thread with a question rather than make a new one, if that is alright.

At what point is playing two characters considered multi-boxing. I feel like there is a little bit of grey area here, and I'd rather not get banned/in trouble for something that isn't really a true offense.

Let's so for example my fiance and I are leveling together, but he wants to go make something to eat/get a snack. If I take over his character, so our leveling doesn't slow down too much, for about 5-10min, am I break serious rules? Should we just stop everything all together for every little thing like that just so we don't get banned, or is it acceptable for one of us to carry on, with the other on follow, moving to their comp to loot if it's needed? I assume me having two windows open and just out right leveling both characters would be again the rules, and I can accept that, but at what point does just helping my spouse out while they step away for a couple minutes turn into rule breaking 'multi-boxing'?

Yes, that will be classified as multiboxing an/or account sharing, which both are bannable.

/follow can indeed get you banned as well (multiboxing).
The best is to simply wait for your fiancee to get back.

If you are not both playing, then you are violating rules. That means, if one of you are AFK and on follow, then you may get banned. But if you are both playing a character then there is no problem, also even you play from same IP address.

That seems so strict, but sadly I understand the need for it. Can't give an inch or people start taking miles.

If /following someone while afk is multi-boxing, then what is the point/function of the /follow command in the first place? I've placed people on /follow in instances before when I had to run to the bathroom, so they could carry on and I wouldn't be left behind to die to patrols. I assume that is fine, right?

Second question: I've thought about making a second account, so I could have horde characters on one, and alliance on another, since I like to make alts and it just sounds better organized to me. would it be a bannable offense for me to be crafting on one account in a city/checking my auctions, while questing on the other?

I dunno what you base that on but you're wrong Mimma.

Technically you're not allowed to touch your fiancees account at all. But I personally know a couple who have played together since pretty much day one. They got a character each and a shared alt which they have both played on. So ye Technically you're not allowed to do that, but there is literally no way of detecting this, especially if you only do it small scale. Just don't tell anyone :P

/follow won't get you banned, you will however most likely get suspected if you do it for an extended period of time. Keep it relatively short just to be safe.

Playing both characters simultaniously on the same computer is a big nono.

Crafting/AFKing on one char in a city won't get you banned. Don't queue for bgs or check AH though.

Thank you both for the responses, it's helped a fair amount. Normally (on retail at least) I wouldn't give a damn and just chance it, but I really am loving Nostalrius and everything it offers, so the last thing I want to do is accidentally get banned for something.

I try not to play his character, mostly because I'd rather be playing my own. At most I just pop over to his comp to trade items faster, again while he's afk for some reason, so we can spend the time he is at the comp doing quests. I don't think I have ever logged onto his account and mine at the same time on the same computer though, and I don't plan to, so I hope that helps to some extent.
