Any point playing?

Hi guys,
First of all I can't believe I've stumbled upon this. Who would've thought anyone would have created a private server so successful! I'm at awe.
I played WoW religously back in '05 for about a year. It was short lived but nothing ever comes close to how much fun I had, used to play for 8+hours a day more or less. Wouldn't have changed a thing.
Fast forward 10 years, I have a job, girlfriend, a home ect. I play PS4 a couple of hours here and there, mainly on the weekend.
So my question is, would there be any point in starting on this server? I wouldn't be playing everyday throughout the week, if so it would be not more than 1 or 2 hours at a time, the weekend a tad bit more but wouldn't be hours on end. Sort of casually.

Sure. Don't really see a reason not to, unless it could possibly interfere with real life.

I choose a bad time to start. Currently server has huge influx of chinese and lagging badly pretty much 24/7. I'd say wait until something is done about it

He's right on this, but so far, I only see this happening on the PvP server. It's also kind of expected considering the typical 7k-10k people online. The PvE server as of now isn't having this problem currently.

Well it's basically impossible to play on PvP because it's being overrun and the administration doesn't seem to care. PvE has the perfect population, but leveling without World PvP will be terrifyingly boring.

As mentioned, if your goals are realistic there's some fun to be had. With that sort of weekly time investment your progress will be slow but you'll enjoy the nostalgia factor if you played back in 2005.
However, the PvP realm seems to have ongoing performance issues at the moment judging by most of the threads here. After not playing actively for about two months I logged in earlier to do some levelling on an alt and the lag and view distance limitation was unbearable. NPCs were disappearing and mobs weren't visible until they were right on top of my character. I've got a high end PC and 18ms ping and the game was unplayable for me personally.
Rolling on the PvE server may be the best option for the moment if you want to try it out.

I started about six weeks ago on the PvP server and I am loving it.
I'm not interested in rushing progression or racing to 60. I am enjoying leveling zones/leveling BGs with a few toons. This server will always be Vanilla. I think progression racers will get bored once all the content is conquered and move on to the TBC realm (when it is available), but hopefully there will be plenty of casual players remaining to enjoy the content at our own place for a long time.

Right now? No
Wait till the massive lag /draw distance issues are fixed.
