Deciding whether or not to level in a group really depends on how quickly you want to level, and, what sort of group you're leveling with? Are you all going to sort out roles, get yourselves set up to have a tank, healer, etc? Will you coordinate professions so you're not all trying to mine/skin? Ignoring those little details, one thing to really try to be sure of, is make sure the people you plan to level with are actually going to stick around.
Though it can be slower leveling, leveling with a group can have it's benefits, such as never having to worry about how you're going to manage an elite quest, or even just tackling orange or red quests. I've been leveling with my fiance on my priest (he's a rogue), and things have gone really smoothly all things considered, and having him to do all the damage means I've been able to focus my talents on strictly healing related things. When I first came to this server though, I came here with friends, we all agreed to play together, and so on. Though we didn't all quest together all the time, we did do what Furilol suggested, and that was to sit in mumble and shoot the shit while just doing our own quests, and it was a blast for a while, but eventually one by one they all stopped playing, and I ended up being left alone on a mage, having gotten shoe horned into a dps role when I wanted to be heals (They all made their characters first, then told me to come and join them, and we wanted a perfect 5 man instancing group), so I had to start over in a sense when they all bailed on the game. I got to play the role I wanted, which was nice, but it was still annoying having wasted time on the other toon for people that didn't stick around. So keep that in mind. Enjoy the group leveling experience, but be ready to start leveling on your own when/if the time comes.
I'm just here to heal and make puns.
