New WoW Player, PvP or PvE?

by Stryxx » Thu Jan 14, 2016 9:23 pm

So i've never ever played vanilla wow because growing up i never had a good computer and now im older and gt one i wanna play but idk if i like the newer wow. This server looks very interesting and i was wondering has a newer player should i play pve or pvp? Im wondering if PvP is everywhere like even when you first begin? If not then i might play that because pvp might be fun in the future.

Yes, pvp is worldwide. No level restrictions.
Honestly, if this is your first taste of vanilla wow, I would start on the pve server. Two reasons I would say this.
1. The pvp server is massively overpopulated with nearly 10k on at peak hours.
2. The pvp server is massively overpopulated with bored max levels getting their kicks from ganking lowies and newbs.
On the pve server, you can still pvp in the battlegrounds if you want some pvp. It has about a 2.5k pop on average peaking at about 3k primetime.

If you like PvP at all, then play the PvP server. Otherwise the PvE server.

You obviously haven't been on at peak hours, which is, btw; 12k+

No. I play on the pve server. 12k on one server is just insane. I don't see how people do it.

Don't listen to those telling you to go PvE. I'd strongly suggest trying PvP if you think it will be more interesting to have something else to do while questing, going to dungeons, outside of neutral cities / towns, etc., like me. I refuse to level on safe PvE server(s). I've seen how much random PvP encounters spice up my gameplay.

"Ganks" (one shot kills on you by higher level player) happen, yes, but I look past it and don't let it get me down. I stuck it out when I first played PvP in WoW back in 2005-2006, and glad I did. There's reward for sticking with it! Random PvP fun at higher levels is worth all the ganking at lower levels. :)

Plus, you can always ask for help in General chat, World chat (/join World), or guild chat.

Even if the population is really high at the moment, test it out for yourself. The worst case is you just hate being ganked so much because you have limited amount of time to play every day and just want to level fast to hit 60 and raid, raid, raid? Just start over on a PvE server. It won't take that long to do so.

Advice from others can only go so far. "If you want something done right, you've got to do it yourself."

Always test for yourself above anyone elses advice, imo. You can let what they say sway your mind, then you might miss out on some really cool experiences.

PvP mark is not worldwide on PvP servers. Major cities and beginner zones do not force PvP mark on players. Let's imagine he makes a Human as first character, starting out in Northshire he will not be marked for PvP, moving onto Elwynn he will not be marked for PvP, then on to Westfall he will not be marked for PvP. Redridge and then Duskwood (and so on) he will be marked for PvP. So, in this case, at around level 15 he will move to a zone that will force PvP mark on him.

As I said in my other post above, yes there is ganking but I just stick it out and move on, then I see the sweet spots of PvPing randomly while leveling / running to dungeons, outside of neutral towns, etc. It's fun and spices up the game. People with limited time and only want to raid ASAP might not like this, so PvE might be the safer choice for them.

Greetings,

If you really want to do the PVE content, I strongly suggest you to go to PVE Server.
Soon they will release the Dragons of Nightmare and it will be a hell on Azeroth to kill one of those dragons.
Besides you must have a Huge patience to level up, because the ganking is TERRIBLE, there are a lot high level idiots that sucks in PVP that need to discount on lowbies.
And if you don't die for the oposite faction you take a lot of time to complete your quest because there are HUNDREDs of players doing the same quest as you.
I left a level 34 druid behind in PVP server and start over in the PVE server and guess what, it was the best choice that I could have.

Good luck!

Literally 95% of world "pvp" situations is either you getting attacked without a chance to defend yourself (be it they're 4v1 or 10 lvls above or you're in the middle of an elite mob pull or whatever) or you attacking soeone who has no chance to defend themselves, if you decide to be like the cool kids. The actual good bits of pvp are massively outweighed by opportunities for people to be cunts to one another, which they gladly take. People are cunts.
Level on pve if you value your time, because the shitters on pvp certainly won't value your time one bit. Besides, it's impossible to make lvl 60s migrate to pve, and we do have a population problem on this end :)
