Life Cycle of a Private Server

Nost is the first private server I have played on. I have been here for about three months and quite enjoying myself with my various lowbies. I am actually curious about the life cycle of a private server is like. Given that its existence lasts longer than the retail experience, what generally happens when the content stops? Do the progression raiders get bored and look for a new private server to conquer? Do people stick around to redo progression on alts?
I am pretty busy IRL so I won't be progressing very fast. When I do eventually have a toon ready to raid way down the road, would this private server continue to have activity at all raiding levels or does that die out based on your collective experiences of private servers?
I enjoy playings alts, but I am wondering if I should just stick to a single main lest I miss the window to experience content while the server is still active.

Dont worry with this pop nost is Save for 10 years At least id say. Content of vanilla gets released till wie reach naxx somewhere next year Maybe. After naxx and At a Not yet defined time there will be the posibility to copy your Char to a nost tbc server. The 60 nost Server will Remain Open for those that dislike Tbc tho.

I'd guess the server stay relevant for around 3 years.
It's pretty hard already to get groups for older content, but it's possible

Lifecycle of most past Vanilla servers that attempted to create a progressive and semi-Blizzlile
Vanilla experience has been either
Launch --> fail within 5 months due to inadequate staff and bugs/networking/anti-cheat issues
or
Launch --> die waiting on AQ
Nostalrius is currently in the waiting on AQ stage. However, the overall quality of the experience so far on Nostalrius has been much higher than basically any past Vanilla server in the opinion of most people. The staff had also (so far) been more professional, more consistent, and more communicative than the staff of *most* past Vanilla servers. So, things look promising.
I fully expect Nostalrius to be the first 1x rates Blizzlike server to progressively reach Naxx with a meaningful population and active staff still in tact.

for 90% im sure there was no server yet having naxxramas including kelthuzad out and on farm status.
You play for fun i dont know there is still so much to fix in the open world and especially in AV, so there is much to experience still, which is not even in game while it should.

If the servers stays up for a few years to come, don't worry about experiencing all content.
In vanilla all main raids remain relevant. People will always run MC, bwl & AQ even when Naxx is released.

The vanilla eq server p1999 has been going strong for 6 years, and they aren't even releasing new content. Considering they have a content release plan here that stretches over a long period of time I doubt nost is going anywhere anytime soon unless the admins decide otherwise

Right, I would just like to enjoy it at a slow, leasurely pace without worrying about missing a window of opportunity. I am hoping a good chunk of the players here are casual like me.

Absolutely nothing stopping you. Only people who have BWL on farm are those with very long background on clearing content. And like people earlier said, MC/ZQ will remain relevant even when Naxx is released.

I don't mind this server close.
The devs are good in their jobs, population is growing each day... i estimate a lot of years for this Vanilla server, don't worry about nost life time.
